It’s a common goal for most of us to want to shield and defend our skin from the pollution in the environment. Especially now that we’re heading into fall when the air quality is less than good, and we find a more pressing need to exfoliate and keep our skin healthily shedding to avoid dullness and buildup of pore clogging bacteria.

The Daytime Defense Shielding Moisturizer ($54) from M.A.D Skincare (Maximum Active Dermaceuticals) is a pollution defense peptide formula that has cellular enhancing isoflavones, cell detoxifers and oxygen boosters. It has seriously active and noteworthy ingredients that do their magic in this product sans parabens, sulfates and chemical colorants. A truly health conscious delivery system!

It is best suited for the 20 to 40-something age group, per the company’s website. And it is listed as one of the company’s bestsellers. I love the convenient and easy to use pump dispenser, and the consistency of this lightweight moisturizer. Fragrance is the last ingredient listed and it is very subtle (almost non-existent actually) and didn’t irritate my skin and cause sensitivity or breakouts as I most typically experience with any skincare product that contains fragrance. The cream effortlessly glides over the skin and works well layered under a sunscreen, makeup and foundation. It quickly sinks into the skin without feeling greasy, sticky or tacky.

It would be an added bonus if this moisturizer contained a mineral sunscreen, which would eliminate the need to use an additional layered product. I’m a big fan of using multi-tasking products whenever possible. Plus, it is usually more cost-efficient.

The better M.A.D Skincare products for my skin would be those in the Anti-Aging line, which contain glycolic acid. The Transforming Daily Moisturizer would likely produce better results for me with the glycolic acid combined with advanced peptides and a multi-plant stem cell complex. I need as much help as possible now… as my skin is changing daily – losing elasticity, radiance and plumpness. Menopause is attacking at every angle; targeting my physical and emotional psyche and making me look and feel older. Wicked whirlwind changes in my skin texture – almost overnight – are evident along with thinning and the demon of gravity taking hold. The nicely padded and lifted and tight complexion is now a fading memory.

As moisturizers go, the Daily Defense Shielding Moisturizer is a definite contender to check out – particularly for the younger and up to middle age set. Those 50 and over will benefit to a greater degree from using more intensive anti-aging and radical skin-altering products that deliver “holy cow, wow!” results and reduce “skin age” by subtracting recordnumbers.
