As I get older, I notice how infrequently my guy friends take care of their skin. Which is fine. Some are guy guys. If they want to use Barbasol shaving cream or Right Guard deodorant, I don't judge (but I do give them the finger wag and mention future consequences). Their adjusted body regimen has to do with the fact they really aren't well informed or have knowledge of what's good (I can help!) but the main problem is affordability. They simply refuse to get out of their price-range comfort zone (It does seem quite a stretch to go from 99c shaving cream to a good $6 one).
One of the biggest problems some of my cheap and uneducated (and very lovely and incredibly handsome) friends have is dry skin. Whether it's lack of rehydration from working out/exercising/considerable amounts of drinking or - speaking of drinking - chafed elbows and knees from falling when drunk, their skin is definitely not in it to win it. Sometimes we tend to neglect our bodies when we focus so much on our face and hair. Plain and simple: guys often think moisturizing isn't necessary. Wrong, as my friend H20 would also say. In addition to drinking plenty of water, it's important to protect your skin topically. Moisturizing nourishes the skin, soothes and, obviously, hydrates. I always push Jack Black Cool Moisture Body Lotion (no, it has nothing to do with the actor; Jack Black is one of my favorite men's grooming lines packed with great ingredients and sharp packaging to boot). First of all, it's very inexpensive. For 16 ounces (that’s a whole pound!) it will set you back $22. And this baby lasts months.
Secondly, the lotion is ultra lightweight, perfect for our skin type that doesn't necessarily need a heavy cream. It contains soy proteins and vitamin E which helps/prevents damaged cells. The jojoba oil penetrates deep to keep the skin hydrated. Its also practically scentless, which I prefer, so it doesn't conflict with a natural odor, or cologne. The best part is the menthyl lactate, which allows the cooling agent to kick in, refreshing the skin and giving it a very subtle tingle. It's perfect for hot days, hot showers, or even a hard workout when your body can use some exterior stimulation. But more importantly it's a simple, inexpensive and practical way of taking care of your body. It is your temple, after all.
