The backstory for Simply Organic Scalp Spa Treatment ($20 for 4oz) is a trip home. I love going to visit my family in Duluth, Georgia. Sure, Duluth may not be anywhere near Tahiti, but it's a great escape from the city. It's utterly quiet (you can hear a pin drop in the neighbor's house at night) and there's nothing like home-cooked meals. The best aspect is the neighborhood pool. I love swimming; the lack of public pools in NYC encourages more home visits during the summer. So when I take a trip, I make sure I pack a swimsuit and sunscreen, and tell mom to load up on watermelon.

To swim in this pool, however, you must make one major sacrifice: wear a swim cap or your hair will be wrecked. The high concentration of chlorine is brutal and will damage your locks instantly, especially if your hair is already damaged or colored.

Because I'm too cool for school, I opt for the consequences. My mother, who I suppose is also TCFS, refrains from wearing a cap and also suffers the hair destruction that not even the best shampoos can treat. Sure, we're stubborn as hell but we'd rather enjoy our pool freedom rather than look like swim team audition rejects (after all, we don't look like swimmers).

So it was nice when she discovered Simply Organic Scalp Spa Treatment. We have tried all sorts of conditioners (okay, maybe not all, but the ones that she has in her bathroom) and nothing seemed to fully penetrate, so she actually sought this product out (very unlike her, as I'm usually the one recommending products). In really soft, simple packaging, the Scalp Spa smells wonderful and comprises ingredients that are perfect for repairing damaged hair, especially when attacked from a pool that seems to comprise 90% chlorine, 10% water.

A top ingredient is olive leaf extract, which is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals that help the scalp but also balances (naturally) the pH level of your hair. Olive oil softens and treats (it's high in antioxidants). It also has honey (I was stoked about this), which happens to be nature's most powerful humectant so you know its moisturizing power is high. I was intrigued by montana flower extract, which helps regulate oil production but it also nourishes the scalp.

Simply Organic Scalp Spa Treatment is not only beneficial after a swim but in general for color-treated (or any chemical exposure, ahem) and damaged hair and even for anyone who uses hair re-growth stimulants. I like it because I do get my hair colored a tone lighter every few months, and it retains a healthy look most color treatments can strip. I've also noticed less dandruff. Scalp Spa Treatment is obviously not as preventative as a swim cap, but hey.... do you really want to wear one every day ? Didn't think so.
