Marc Jacobs Beauty - reviewed and rejected

None amongst the ingredients except myrrh

Tons of silicones, synthetics and chemicals

Don't be fooled by "breakthrough anti-aging" claims

Marc Jacobs has launched his long-awaited beauty line and I immediately honed in on Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation ($48) since it is claimed to be a “breakthrough gel foundation that’s antiaging." Let me save you the bother by getting straight to the point: there is nothing that is anti-aging about Marc Jacobs Beauty’s foundation.

And I mean nothing. There isn’t even some fairy dusting of green tea or argan oil. On the other hand, there’s enough silicone here for a breast implant.

Other ingredients are beyond mediocre, such as aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, an anti-caking agent, synthetic emollient isononyl isononanoate , and binding agent dimer dilinoleyl diner dilinoleate. I could go through them all, but it’s too depressing. The only half-way decent ingredient is glycerin.

I wondered whether I’d have better luck with the rest of the range. Marc Jacobs Beauty Lip Lock Moisture Balm ($30) also claims to be anti-aging with myrrh extract. This does, at least, have antioxidant properties, but that’s it. The rest of the ingredients are what you’d expect to find in a conventional lipstick. On the plus side, there’s nothing too awful apart from BHT, an ingredient that is considered to be carcinogenic.

I’ll be sticking to my new find W3LL People and La Vie Celeste, for natural ingredients with genuine anti-aging actives and great performance.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of a trip to Sephora! how disappointing yet not surprising. It's too bad many will pay the inflated price by not realizing the claims are beyond false. This exemplifies why it is so important to do your own follow up. Thanks, Marta!
