I have Mike30 to thank for Giovanni's D:tox System Purifying Body Wash. I believe that Maris, a newish company, sought me out and sent me a pot of Bali Vanilla Scrub. In both cases, I am very glad of the introduction and the nice edge that they bring to morning ablutions.

Giovanni d:tox is by far the best body wash I have come across (admittedly that's not saying much). It's hard to believe that the very first ingredient is acai berry and if that doesn't make your jaw drop consider that the next three are also botanical antioxidants: goji (as an aside, I drink a few ounces of goji juice every morning as it has so much antioxidant power that it puts blueberries in the shade), fig and green tea.

Call me eccentric, but I get even more excited by the charcoal and volcanic ash. Charcoal is an amazing detoxifier. I use a charcoal cleanser from Japan with the Clarisonic brush to keep bacne at bay (obviously, the Giovanni will be taking over from now on). The volcanic ash acts as an exfolliant and its sulfur content will also help clear oily pores and prevent breakouts.

Although there are a couple of nasties such as phenoxyethanol, you can't quibble about the price - a little under $6 at Vitacost or $9.95 at Amazon.

Follow Giovanni D:tox with an exfoliating scrub from Maris that smells subtly of a tropical island and you'll feel clean enough for the most important date of your life. Fragrance is Maris' thang and that might account for why this scrub has leaves a lingering scent on the body. If I close my eyes to the preservatives that are rather too high up the ingredients list for my liking, this is one lovely buffer. Salt does the scrubbing job, but somehow the grains here are a perfect size to be gentle but effective. Shea butter and aloe vera almost make post-shower moisturizing unnecessary.

Oh I tried the Giovanni D:tox body scrub and loved it, much down to the charcoal I think. I was so impressed I bought a hair conditioner from the Giovanni range, but unfortunately that wasn't so great..
