It takes patience to see how this serum's benefits but worth the wait

After six weeks of testing Medik8 Firma Derma Skin Firming Serum for Neck & Decollete ($68), I can say I see results. I don’t see results in all the areas that the brand promises, but I do see results.

My skin is definitely softer and smoother – but I can’t yet speak to any decreased sagging or increase in firmness and elasticity, or reduction in fine lines in the neck area... perhaps more time spent using this product will show improved results. I do notice a decrease in the slight wrinkling/creasing that I used to find in the décolleté area after a night of side-sleeping.

When using the product twice a day on one side of my neck (for comparison) and entire décolleté, there remains approximately one-half of the 30ml bottle. It is a glass bottle with a dropper-style applicator, making it easy to apply several drops along a finger and massage into skin. This colorless, water-like consistency serum soaks in quickly. While there is a slightly medicinal odor directly from the bottle, there is no scent upon application. After allowing a few minutes to ensure full absorption, I sparingly apply just a basic moisturizer at night and a sunscreen in the morning.

The primary active ingredients are DMAE and rosemary extract. While DMAE remains somewhat controversial in regards to its potential to cause skin cell damage and its mode of action in skin is yet unclear, it is purported to provide improving skin elasticity and firmness. The percentage of DMAE is not noted in this serum but it is listed as the third ingredient. Rosemary extract has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. There are also some preservatives (rated 4 to 5 on the EWG site), as well as limonene, which can be an irritant. (I had no issues with redness or irritation of my sensitive skin.)

I plan to finish this bottle, hoping to see improvements in the neck area with time. For now, my skin is silkier, yet still a bit saggy.

UPDATE (June 2013): With continued use, I have noticed improved skin texture and, indeed, some firming of the neck/decollete area. My skin feels so much better and even more hydrated, requiring less moisturizer. This treatment definitely goes beyond any other moisturizer/serum I have tried for this troublesome area and has made me curious to see if other Medik8 products are as effective.
