The great results are worth the hefty price

Noticeable results in just a few weeks

Difficult to control amount of product with pump

I like using moisturizing formulas on my skin that are rich, intense and that hydrate my face throughout the day without being greasy looking. When I was offered a chance to review a moisturizer for Truth In Aging, of course I jumped at the opportunity.  What I received was exactly the type of product that I enjoy using on my face and can even wear under makeup.  Medik8 Hydr8 Day XD Youth Activating Moisturiser ($80) has a deeply rich formula, that is intensely hydrating daily, but not greasy, and boasts that it is made with epidermal growth factors (EGF) along with vitamin C (C-Tetra(r)) for skin renewal, 'Moisture Magnets' and cocoa butter for hydration and a composition of antioxidants and Ectoin for broad sunburn cell protection. The site states that it contains advanced, clinically tested ingredients in proven concentrations designed to provide cellular protection and hydration, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and reducing the visible signs of aging and is designed for extra dry skin.

I dug a little for my own understanding and found that growth factors are proteins that play an important role in stimulating skin cell growth, naturally repairing them and the regeneration and proper functioning of all cells needed to maintain healthy skin. Additionally, the application of EGF to the skin will help accelerate healing and when applied to aging skin, increases the rate of skin renewal. How can this not be a good thing?

Medik8 Hydr8 Day XD Youth Activating Moisturiser is formulated for daily application to the face as part of a morning regimen. I was particularly interested in using the product on my neck as well since I'm noticing the beginning signs of a baby gobbler that seems interested in spending time with me. Each morning after cleansing my face and neck area I applied Hydr8 sparingly to both areas. The product is rich and buttery looking and doesn't require much, a little goes a long way, however I did tend to slather a bit extra on my neck area. I allowed it to absorb before applying my makeup and it did seem to make my skin appear dewy, I was quite surprised. Note that you should allow it to dry when using sunscreen products as well.

The rest of my daily routine, after applying the moisturizer, consisted of adding a light foundation and translucent powder for work, 5 days a week and just the moisturizer for weekends only. I've stressed many times that the Texas humidity and heat take a toll on skin and hair for a good portion of the year, so I wasn't sure what to expect from this new product with my combination skin; dry cheeks with an oily T-zone. I plunged in and followed my daily regimen consistently for over 30 days and I began to notice some very marked changes to my face, and to my neck as well, in about 3 weeks that were quite pleasing. I wear makeup so it was exceptionally pleasing when I noticed that my skin didn't appear dry looking after applying makeup over the moisturizer and that throughout the day my face actually appeared slightly dewy, not oily as usual, and a dab with a tissue was all that I needed to do without having to retouch it. I confess that I am quite surprised how well it worked for me in this regard. I recently had a facial massage done and under the magnifying scope I was told that my skin was in good condition and I received a few surprising compliments from others on it as well.

As much as I like what this product has done for me, I do have two minor issues about it; the first is the pump, if you don't push down hard then you get a decent amount of the product for application, but if you push the pump all the way down the product squirts out all over the place. The second issue is that for the cost, you're getting 1.69 ounces of product and it's a good product that goes a long way, but for me it's still a bit pricey, no matter how much I like it. Additionally, I state with each review I do that the product I review may not give the same or equal results for everyone or work in the same way. Regardless, I've seen some really good results from having this opportunity to use it, and if it were a bit more affordable, it would be a most definite consideration for my skincare cabinet and daily skincare routine. That said, I do recommend the product.

Hi Theresa I have linked to definitions and more information on most of the ingredients and for a quick synopsis: saccharide isomerate is a moisturizer with the same carbohydrates found in skin; cocoa seed butter is another moisturizer and antioxidant; Bis-Diglyceryl Polyaclyadipate-2 is an emollient often used as a lanolin substitute (it can be irritating); polyacrylamide is controversial because it can contain acrylamide, toxin; Superoxide Dismutase is a powerful antioxidant; ectoin prevents UVA-induced sun damage; Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is vitamin C, sh-oligopeptide-1 is a growth factor - same as in their Growth Factors serum; the usual preservatives and so on. Hope this helps

Wow! Sounds suprisingly great, and by the way great review. Although I wish there had been more detail to the ingredient list as it sounded more like something I would find at the local drug store. That being said I didn't research these ingredients either, but a reg flag always seems to go up when I can't pronounce anything but water. As far as the rest goes, I would be truly interested in knowing what they do and which ingredients (s) are the growth factors, At $95.00 I guess for me it's pretty important to understand the ingredients and what they do before pulling out my wallet.
