Decreases the appearance of lines and wrinkles

Leaves behind smoother, younger looking skin

I’ve been using Medik8 Pretox 20 ($100), a “targeted wrinkle treatment,” for four weeks now. Medik8 states that Pretox 20 is an injection-free alternative to Botox, which I found to be a pretty cocky statement. Botox is a toxin that paralyzes muscles to prevent them from moving, which in turn prevents our faces from deepening our wrinkles. So what is Pretox 20 supposed to do, stop our faces from moving?

According to Medik8, muscles contract when they receive a neurotransmitter release from a nerve. Like Botox, Pretox 20 disrupts the nerve stimulation on the muscle tissue, but unlike Botox, this product doesn’t paralyze the muscle. Instead, it simply decreases the strength of the muscle contractions, thus reducing the formation of new wrinkles, and making old lines appear less prominent.

As Marta stated in this video, Medik8’s formulas are “extremely-targeted … science-driven and cutting-edge”. And they certainly are. The information they provide is thorough and, to me, fascinating. I like science. I like tests and proofs and validation of products, supporting efficacy. I’m all about efficacy.

I did see the lines between my eyes (my major concern) get shallower with repeated use of Medik8 Pretox 20.  The lines on my forehead also showed improvement.  Those are deeper, but there was still noticeable improvement.  I didn't notice as much change with the lines at the corners of my eyes, but those are very fine.

The product is a gel -- smooth, not sticky, cool to the touch both to my fingers and when I applied it to my face.  It felt quite soothing, in fact.  I stroked on a fairly thin layer on the lines directly.  It's very easy to apply and doesn't take much product at all.  No smell, no unpleasant reactions to the gel. I allowed the recommended time for the gel to take effect (only a few minutes), and noticed a tightness develop in my skin in those areas.  It wasn't unpleasant, but I did notice the sensation, and I did see the skin 'flatten' a bit.  It was a trifle shiny after it dried but not overly so.
The directions advised applying Medik8 Pretox 20 first, and then other serums and creams on top after it dried.  I do follow that regimen, and the tightness seems to lessen when these other items are added, although they don't appear to work against the product's efforts, which is kind of amazing, and the shininess goes away.  When I apply Medik8 Pretox 20 with only a moisturizing sunscreen on top, I get the same result - less shiny and a bit more comfortable.  I am gentle when I apply addiional products on top of Medik8 Pretox 20; I pat on the serums and creams so I don't rub off the Medik8 Pretox 20, or lessen it's effect.
As I said, a little goes a long way.  I can easily see this product lasting 6 months or longer.

But of course, the real proof is in what Medik8 Pretox 20 did for me. Well, I used it. And I can say with confidence that it really works!

I really like this product! I typically don't use it in conjunction with other Medik8 serums, so I can't speak to any synergistic effects that I am missing out on, but I love it all on it's own, especially as a base for foundation. I discovered that by accident, but now use it whenever I know I am going to have a long day. I think it keeps me looking fresher and relaxed much longer than other products. A little goes a very long way and I don't really need the full amount dispensed by the product's pump (my one complaint), but if I have too much product, I typically rub it into my decollete or around my neck. It softens the lines around my mouth and eyes and it definitely allows me to use less foundation. I adore the tightening effect of Medik8 Pretox 20.
I have never used a Medik8 product that I didn't like, but there are a few--like this one--that I'll keep in my arsenal until Medik8 replaces it with something even more fabulous. Worth the money.
