An impressive retinol cream for sensitive skin

Pros

Doesn't irritate while improving skin texture

Cons

Comes in a jar rather than tube

New to retinol products, I was excited to try Medik8’s Retinol 1 TR Cream ($60) as it is touted as the “perfect introduction” to retinol on Medik8’s website.  Medik8 says it’s a “softer 0.1% dosage. Ideal for those with super-sensitive skin that want to give retinol a try, but still receive a strong result that you will notice and love.”  Despite targeting super-sensitive skin, the instructions recommend one use the product twice per week to start and work up to using it every night, which I did and other than using this night cream, I made no other changes to my skincare routine.

I was also pleased that Medik8 does not test its’ products on animals and uses eco-friendly packaging (although the glass jar is double walled and much larger than it needs to be).  The glass jar is also not particularly hygienic and I prefer packaging that is sealed like an airless pump or even a tube, but I’m sure there is a reason for the jar and the product is lovely enough to overlook this.  While the packaging didn’t impress me, the list of ingredients did: 0.1% Vitamin A (Retinol), hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and Vitamin E. Further the cream uses something called “time-release technology” to, in theory, deliver a continuous dose of Retinol.

Medik8’s product line and philosophy are note worthy – they believe in “solution-specific products” that provide proven results and they create their products in small batches with skin “safe” ingredients to minimize irritation. The 1 TR Cream is no exception.  It is a thick rich luxurious night cream with a very slight grainy texture and a very mild scent.  Despite having sensitive skin I had no irritation or sensitivity using this cream and in fact, it was quickly absorbed into my skin and left my face with a nice dewy look.  After a very short period of time my skin texture and tone improved and I was impressed!

Overall, my impressions were positive for my 53 year old skin and I definitely recommend Medik8 Retinol 1TR Cream if you’re interested in trying retinol, but have sensitive skin or if you’re new to Retinol. It’s a terrific product designed just for you.
