I was excited to try Michael Todd True Organics Hyaluronic Acid + C Antioxidant Moisturizing Serum ($37 in the shop) as I regularly use many other products from the same line. The pump is their same purple, sturdy plastic container. The only disadvantage to this is that you cannot see how much product is left. The product website professes to “work to fortify skin against environmental stressors and reverse UV induced sun damage and signs of premature skin aging. Restores and maintains dry and mature skin’s optimal moisture balance to leave skin feeling moist, smooth and younger looking all day.” After four weeks of use I can confidently give this product an A-.
The serum itself is a yellowish color and has a mid-weight consistency that easy spreads and absorbs into the skin. The smell is a light rose fragrance, but nothing overpowering or lingering — thank goodness! It is recommended to use 2-3 drops; I used about half a pump every morning and that was plenty to cover my face and neck.
Two ingredients, concentrated humectant hyaluronic acid and DMAE, are stated to increase hydration and reduce irritation to maintain your skin’s optimal moisture balance. While I did not notice any new dry spots, I also did not notice a vast improvement in my hydration levels. I was unable to forego moisturizer or even switch to a lighter version. However, the vitamin C included did provide significant results in brightening my skin and reducing past sun damage. I saw a subtle glow after 2 weeks of consistent use. I also consider it a plus that even though this product has vitamin C, it is safe to use in the am (don’t forget sunscreen!) unlike other products that recommend only using vitamin C at night.
This serum is also chock full of vitamins A, B complex, E, coenzyme Q-10, and alpha lipoic acid. These ingredients help to protect your skin while quashing early signs of aging, such as decreasing my mid-30s marionette lines and smoothing my face texture...wahoo!
At four weeks of use, I would estimate having used about half the bottle so this is very reasonably priced for the results and amount of product you get. Those with oily/combination skin may not need to use a moisturizer, but normal/dry skin should plan on including one. My sensitive skin was not irritated by this product, nor did it cause me any breakouts. I would not consider this a "moisturizing serum," but overall this is a great anti-aging and brightening product that shows results quickly.
