A great weekly scrub that effectively exfoliates and smoothes skin

Leaves skin nice, smooth and soft

Contains a questionable preservative

I’m in my 40s, and after testing the Michael Todd True Organics Walnut Grapefruit Body Polish ($14), I can say that I am happy with the results. This body polish provides exfoliation through finely ground walnut shells. I would say that the walnut is ground almost to the consistency of sand. Recently, I’ve been using sugar scrubs with much larger granules. I didn’t realize it until trying this scrub, but I prefer the finer granules. After using the product, my skin is nice and smooth (well... polished). Body oils and lotions absorb nicely after application. This product does not leave an oily residue, unlike the sugar scrubs I’ve been using.

The pleasant citrus aroma is a nice way to start the day and is not overpowering or lingering. When dispensing the scrub, it can have a tendency to come out of the tube a bit runny. To combat this, I would just shake up the tube before dispensing. The ingredients seem to separate, clogging the opening every now and then. This really wasn’t a big deal, and after a good shake the opening would clear.

This product boasts some nice ingredients such as aloe and chamomile, which are soothing to the skin. Panthenol is a humectant and can help the skin retain moisture. In addition, there is jojoba oil and rosehip seed oil — both of which are great for the skin. The only ingredient that I don’t care for that is rather high up on the list is the preservative phenoxyethanol.

As I said previously, I liked the results from using the Michael Todd Walnut & Grapefruit Polishing Scrub. I only used the scrub once a week, as it is important not to over-exfoliate. But, it is certainly gentle enough to be used more often. Once a week was enough to see results. After using the scrub, I would apply a body oil and/or a balm to help retain moisture. The results were nice, smooth, soft skin. This product worked equally well on legs prior to shaving. The product description says that it can be used on the face but to use care on sensitive areas. I personally wouldn’t use this on my face, but the option is there. All in all, I liked the performance of this product. It is a great weekly scrub with a pleasant scent that doesn't leave a residue afterwards.
