With its special patented form of CoQ10 designed to target mitochondria and promote optimal cell function, MitoQ 5mg Targeted Anti-oxidant Supplements ($69.95 in the shop) makes some hefty promises; the powerful little pill claims to replenish antioxidant levels while improving energy and reducing free radical damage. When we had two of our Truth In Aging community members put it to the test, we were intrigued by their results.

Linda was eager to experience the promised boost of energy, and she found that MitoQ didn’t disappoint. “I no longer have that afternoon slump in energy,” she said, adding that she was also sleeping better night. Susan was skeptical, as she had taken CoQ10 supplements in the past and didn't notice any benefits. But MitoQ took her by surprise right away, and the results didn't let up. “The energy, clarity and overall feeling of well-being have continued, and my skin seems clearer and brighter,” she said. We had four more TIA community members give these supplements a try, just to make sure the rave reviews weren’t a fluke. Here’s what they had to say:

I was beyond skeptical when I was offered MitoQ 5mg Targeted Anti-oxidant supplements for review. As a rule, I don't believe in the claims of vitamins and supplements. But I had been complaining of low-energy and fatigue for weeks and my friends at Truth in Aging felt it was worth a shot.

MitoQ supplements claim to support heart, liver and brain health, while assisting energy, libido and healthy aging. The active ingredient in the supplements is Mitoquinol Mesylate, a patented chemical compound designed to increase the body's production of Co Q10, natural antioxidants that fight free radicals at a mitochondrial level.

I started with MitoQ right away, following the directions on the bottle to take two capsules each morning. I did notice an almost-immediate boost to my energy.  However, I also noticed that it was hard for me to stay asleep at night. I reduced the dose to one tablet per day, which seemed to do the trick.I can't say whether I have improved liver, heart or brain health after a month taking MitoQ, but my energy level has been consistently good, and a colleague actually commented on the fresh look of my skin.

Although CoQ10 supplements can be bought at any health food store, most of it fails to get where it is needed. MitoQ is different because its patented formula allows it to go directly to the mitochondria.

Since I’m a fairly high-energy gal, I wasn’t sure what, if anything, to expect from MitoQ. Would it have me bouncing off the walls? Would I be out-lifting twenty year-olds at the gym? I began taking two capsules each day, per the instructions, and although it didn't give me super powers, I did see a marked improvement in my concentration at the office. Instead of getting sleepy while sitting at my desk, I had more focus and mental stamina than usual and easily cleared my backlog of projects after a week-long vacation.

I also noticed an improvement in pulmonary function. My asthma is usually kept under control by a daily dose of inhaled corticosteroids, but during heavy pollen season, I often need to add a second dose and sometimes an antihistamine as well. This year, in spite of pollen counts so high that my car was coated in yellow dust for a month, I needed no additional medication to keep my lungs clear. This was such a marked contrast to other years that I bought a second bottle of MitoQ. It is more expensive than most of my supplements, but in my opinion, it is well worth continuing.

I have normal skin that can be sensitive to certain things, but I did not experience any negative side effects to taking the MitoQ Supplements. The label suggests MitoQ supports heart, liver and brain health, though those are not benefits that are visible, so I can not comment on whether or not I had an improvement in these areas. The active ingredient, Mitoquinol Mesylate, has been discussed at length on the Truth In Aging site; I liked that it was in capsule form and easy to take, as well as the fact that it contained no animal products. After taking the supplement for one month, I do not have any dramatic results to report. Though, I think it would be worth a try for other readers, as everyone is different and the results will vary from person to person.

I have been taking MitoQ supplements for a month, and although I was intrigued, I would need more time to be convinced of their efficacy. They claim people who take MitoQ supplements report extra energy, less stress, support for sleep, increased endurance, increased libido and an overall feeling of good health.

For the first two weeks, I took two capsules each morning. Within a few days of taking the MitoQ supplements I noticed a positive difference.  Not only did I have more energy throughout my day and in the evenings, but I handled my stresses exceptionally well, had increased patience, and had greater endurance on many levels.  During the third week, I wasn’t seeing quite the same results and felt like I was back to my normal self.  I was disappointed and became disillusioned. My natural inclination was to look at the first two weeks as a fluke.  I took a few days off from taking my morning dose and then decided to resume.  I would say that within a few days, I could see a difference once again.  My energy levels and overall feeling of good health was subtle yet increased.  I have no way of measuring any benefits to my internal organs, but I am hopeful!

The one benefit I was expecting from taking the MitoQ supplements was an improvement in my skin. I have dry and uneven skin.  Although we have had a very cold winter, which has not helped my dryness, I was surprised and slightly disappointed that I never experienced a change in my skin tone or texture.

My overall impression is that MitoQ has potential, but at $60 for a one month supply, it is also quite expensive!

MitoQ supplements claim to support health and prevent free radical damage from the inside, while their award-winning anti-aging serum protects skin externally. Tell us TIA community, what do you do to ensure you're healthy inside and out?

I think I'm doing good things for my skin. The only problem I see that is persistent is some sagging skin that isn't terrible, but sure makes me realize I'm getting older! Since using products I've bought here, (right now I'm using Expurtise) I feel good about my skin. I am a busy Realtor, but I used to be a health coach and do the best I can to remember my own council. Yoga always helps me relax, it's meditative but because it's mixed with movement and breathing I find it easier to do than straight meditation. I eat organic whenever possible and avoid chemicals in my food and personal care products as much as I can. And certainly no animal testing - that's something I feel passionate about. I see the ingredients in Z and I'd be happy to give it a go on my 59 year old face. I'm getting older, but as they say, I'm also getting better!

I have been taking 2 capsules daily of Mito-Q now for nearly 2 months and was very much looking forward as to how it may affect me. I have not noticed any difference in energy levels; I have become very breathless now in aerobics...where I never was before; my auto-immune disease appears to be worsening and I have noticed no difference in my skin tone or texture. All in all, pretty disappointing. Anyone else out there get similar results?

The idea of renewing cells and getting back to the childlike state of a beautiful, radiant complexion is every woman's desire. It sounds as though these supplements would assist in this process in a wonderful way.

As an esthetician, I am always trying to help my clients improve their skin. I can only work on the outside, but it's up to them to help me, help them, by improving the inside. I am intrigued by this because I survived a brain aneurysm a 4 months ago, and I cannot stay awake for more than 7 hours. I'm scheduled for micro-neutrient testing to look for deficiencies. Maybe this is the answer.

I forgot to mention that I also struggle a great deal with sleep all year long, but especially in the winter. At the moment, I'm using a special LED light and other supplements to correct this issue. This also affects my skin, which winds up looking pale, sallow & tired.

As I said before, would love to try this product. It sounds like it was custom-made for me.

I would love to try this product simply because I'm always looking for products which are actually natural, which is an often abused term in this industry. Supplements are already an everyday part of my life, and this one sounds like it has several fringe benefits in addition to being great for the skin.

Judging from others' reviews, my interest is peaked even moreso as my energy level is often low, especially living in Canada through the winter. This most definitely shows in my skin in a large way.

I need these supplements. You know the old saying garbage in garage out? Well that's me as much good as I do for my skin topically I wonder if it doesn't get undone by the junk food and ok too much wine I sometimes consume. I need something to help me get beautiful from the inside!

I would be the perfect person to try the MitoQ for I have been exhausted for as long as I can remember and I believe it due to my not going into my REM sleep! I have tried everything including coq10, thank you so much!

As a devoted fan of MitoQ Anti-Aging Serum (my favorite skincare product), I'm curious and would love to try the Targeted Anti-oxident Supplements.

The reviews I've read sound promising (who wouldn't like more energy AND better skin?), and if the results are as positive as the ones I've garnered from the Serum, then the $2 a day cost is a worthy investment.

I'll be turning 66 in the spring, and thanks to TIA's product recommendations, my skin looks great. I would love to try MitoQ 's Anti-oxident supplements to help keep my brain, liver and heart working great, too.
