I received the Moana Night Repair Serum to review for the Truth In Aging Dare To Try Program. Moana is an organic skin care company out of New Zealand. The night serum is 95% seaweed and is supposed to “aid in stimulating the elimination of pollutants from the skin cells, helps balance your skin’s natural rhythm and helps improve your skin’s texture and tone.”
I am in my late 40s, and I have combination skin. It tends to be really dry when I use my prescription Retin-A. While trying the serum, I stopped using Retin-A so I could have a better sense of the product. I have fine lines around my eyes and lips and some lines on my forehead. I was definitely excited to try a night serum, as I was hoping to move away from the Retin-A and toward something more organic.
The key to Moana’s products is the use of New Zealand native red seaweed, Glycoplus® and kawakawa. Kawakawa is used to treat skin problems such as eczema, inflamed or irritated skin, and sunburn. When I first used the product, it had a seaweed/ocean-like smell. However, it is not overpowering at all. Actually, it smells really pleasant and is very mild. It is a light serum that sinks right into the skin. I usually moisturize right after and found it had no greasy feeling whatsoever.
The positives are that is has a really mild smell and a great texture. I have definitely noticed my coloring is brighter, and when I wake up, I can see some plumpness to my skin. I have seen some lessening of wrinkles around my lip and eyes but nothing drastic. The negative is that the results are subtle and it takes several weeks of using the product. I like the product though and would be interested in other products from this line.
