Living in Southern California, I am always on the lookout for a great SPF 30+ sunscreen. As a woman in her 50s with somewhat oily and sensitive skin that occasionally breaks out, I am especially concerned with minimizing sun damage as I age. Murad Essential-C Sun Balm ($25) is described on the Murad site as providing "powerful SPF protection in a portable package allows quick and easy application and broad spectrum protection from aging UVA/UVB rays, free radicals and dehydration."
I really like the way the balm applies. It has a smooth feel and works well under my makeup, which is usually Jane Iredale Glow Time BB Cream ($48 in the shop). Since it is a chemical sunscreen it does not leave a white cast, which I like, though I generally prefer a physical sunscreen for health reasons. It didn't make me break out or irritate my skin, and it didn't make my face more oily. It seemed effective as a sunscreen, I didn't have any issues with it on some recent unseasonably warm days. I especially liked the packaging, which is similar to a roll-up stick deodorant and traveled easily when I went out of town. Overall, it's a great product.
