New antioxidant lip color from Clinique - reviewed and recommended

August 19, 2009 Reviewed by Marta 0 Comments
Clinique is getting a makeover. No longer stuck in the 1980s with "the three-step program", it has recently been innovating with some impressive new products that major on antioxidants, such as vitamin C-rich CX C15 De-Aging Clarity Formula.  With its latest Vitamin C Lip Smoothie Antioxidant Lip Color ($17.50), Clinique is in serious danger of giving department store cosmetics a good name.

Lip Smoothies come in a limited range of colors with names, such as Absolute Acai, that keep up the healthy theme (I have Nude-tricious, which isn't really nude but more of a burnt peach with some shimmer). For something that is more like a lip gloss than a lipstick, I find it fairly comfortable to wear - not too tacky - and it is long-lasting. be warned that it takes quite a few twists of the applicator before the brush fills and then it is very, very easy to overfill.

There are a couple of potential irritants (bismuth oxychloride, phenoxyethanol and octyldodecanol), but they are outweighed by antioxidant pomegranate and vitamins C and E. Theobroma grandiflorum, commonly called copuacu (a useful word to remember next time you are playing scrabble and don't have a letter q), is a South American tree that contains nine flavenoid antioxidants including quercetin. There is also acai, a so-called superfruit that is certainly an antioxidant but no one seems to have researched it very sufficiently. In addition, Clinique has added several important fatty acids.

Triisostearyl citrate, hydrogenated polysorbutene, octyldodecanol, microcrystalline wax/cera microcristallina/cire, microcristalline, shea butter, Pomegranate sterols, polyethylene, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, theobroma grandiflorum seed butter, disteardimonium hectorite, euterpe oleracea sterols, lecithin, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, capryl glycol, lauryl PCA, hexylene glycol, oleic acid, tocopheryl acetate, calcium sodium borosilicate, phenoxyethanol [+/- mica, titanium dioxide (C1 77891), C1 77491, C1 77499, yellow 5 lake (C1 19140), red 28 lake (C1 45410), re 7 lake (C1 15850), blue 1 lake (C1 42090), red 22 lake (C1 45380), red 30 lake (C1 73360), carmine (C1 75470), bismuth oxychloride (C1 77163), red 33 lake (C1 17200) red 6 (C1 158850), yellow 6 lake (C1 15985)]
