I’ve been interested in gold as a skincare ingredient ever since I came across it in Japanese line called Cosme Proud and Chantecaille’s Gold Energizing Cream. Gold seems to give these cosmetic companies license to charge a king’s ransom ($100 and a whopping $420) and so I haven’t investigated it as much as I would like. Trust Nutra-Lift to come up with Rejuvenating A Nano Renue featuring 24 karat gold for just $46. And to have a different take, which I’ll come back to in a moment.
First, gold is no gimmck. It has a medicinal history going back to ancient times. Recently, gold salts (the ionic chemical compounds of gold) started to be used for injecting to reduce inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. More recently nanotechnology and gold have come together in medicine. For example, gold nano-bullets are being used, according to Science magazine, as a cure for cancer. And gold nano particles are employed to detect cancers and toxins (source).
Nutra-Lift Rejuvenating A Nano Renue ($48) actually has something called golden collagenine. This is a synthetic peptide that has been attached (or nanoconjugated as the manufacturer of this ingredient puts it) to gold particles. So these nano gold particles act as the delivery system for a peptide that is supposed to have an impact on collagen production. At a 0,3% dose, golden collagenine will boost collagen synthesis by over 200% and by over 150% at a 0.15% dose. I don’t know what the concentration used by Nutra Lift is.
Here, Nutra-Lift has nanoconjugated the gold with what it calls Anti-Aging Peptide-8 Complex. As you can see from the ingredients list below this peptide cocktail includes collagen boosting Matrixyl 3000 at 5% and Myristoyl Pentapeptide-8, the expression line inhibitor Argireline and Snap 8, and liposomes.
There are plenty of other goodies that are not twinned with gold, but still will potentially do a power of good for aging skin. These include Nutra-Lift favorite alpha lipoic acid, marine extracts, milk thistle and yam.
Nutra-Lift’s products generally work well and provide great value for money. I’ll be trying my free sample of this over the coming weeks and will let you know if this time they have struck gold.
