NYC’s humid summers have not been friendly with my long hair. Not only do I have to deal with a halo of frizz almost daily, but I also feel like my hair (and scalp) have been more dry than usual at times even leaving me with flakes. Marta gave me a sample of Nurture My Body’s Volumizing Shampoo ($24.38) that I’ve been using for the past week, and I have to say I’m really blown away by how smooth and strong my hair has been feeling – I seriously can’t stop running my fingers through them!

First the good stuff (then the better stuff). Nurture My Body, as you probably already know from our Founders Series, uses only certified organic ingredients. This particular shampoo from them has a myriad moisturizing and nourishing contents, including seaweed extract, chickweed (which works wonders on irritated and flakey skin), chamomile and horsetail which stimulates circulation. The volumizing factor seems to lie in the inclusion of lemongrass essential oil. Lemongrass is said to act as a gentle cleanser for hair without weighing it down or over-drying.

For my test drive, I felt like the shampoo worked right in the shower. After rinsing, my hair already felt a bit smoother. I used a little conditioner from Sunsilk that I had in my shower and then left my locks to air dry a bit while I did my work. I try to keep blow drying my hair to a minimum during the summer because of the frizz/humidity factor, but since I didn’t want to go to bed with wet hair I did end up drying it. Afterwards, I barely recognized my own hair. It was smooth, shiny, luxurious. The next day, I met my sister for lunch and she even commented, “Did you get a hair cut? You hair looks great!”

After my workout this morning, I washed my hair again using the shampoo and had literally 10 minutes left until I had to leave for work for a quick blow dry. Now, normally, I have to use a round brush to tame my wavy hair. Since I was short on time, that didn’t happen. I was surprised to see that even without a round brush, my hair set smoothly in place and felt thick and healthy. I credit Nurture My Body’s shampoo. A non-toxic, sulfate-free shampoo with beautiful results? I love it so much, I’m on their site right now buying my own bottle of their shampoo and conditioner as we speak!

Shyema - What kind of hair do you have? Fine, coarse, porous, dyed, highlighted, etc.?
    Thanks!
