More often than not I’ve been turned off by skincare products containing copper for one main reason – the unpleasant fragrance. Regardless of the potential benefits, I don’t want to walk around smelling like a handful of old copper pennies. So upon receiving Osmotics Blue Copper 5 Face Lifting Serum ($75), I promptly dispensed a dab and sniffed. Nothing! An unscented copper skincare product was a good start.

Osmotics also included with the copper the peptides Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Tetrapeptide-3 (together known as Matrixyl 3000), which among other things may help to improve healing, promote collagen production, and improve elasticity. But looking down at the bottom of the ingredients list are two controversial parabens, methylparaben and propylparaben, which are off-putting to many consumers.

I found this to be a lightweight formula that did absorb quickly, leaving a slightly moisturized feeling on top of the skin without any oiliness or a greasy feel. (I tested this on half of my face and on my entire neck.) The serum actually seemed to keep my skin lightly moisturized all day, which worked well since my skin is naturally oily, and did so without causing any breakouts. It also did fair with plumping up very fine lines at the corners of the eyes, as they appeared a little more relaxed and filled in, and the skin on my face did feel a bit firmer (versus the untreated side), but I can’t say there was any noticeable difference on the neck area at all.

Overall, for me this product was a mixed bag. The hydration factor was good as it did quite well as a light moisturizer and just okay with plumping, but I didn’t see any noticeable “lifting” at all. And then there is the issue of inclusion of parabens, which I would personally rather do without. I think they have a superior product in Osmotics Crease-Less Surgical Alternative, which has performed much better for me over time in the areas of addressing lines, wrinkles, hydration, plumping and overall skin improvement.
