beauty products for spring

We are, at long last, emerging from winter's deep freeze! Sporadic bouts of 50+ temperatures have given New Yorkers a dose of spring fever, and today's 60-degree rainy forecast has whetted our appetites for the promised flowers from soon-to-come April showers.

Spring is the season when we think about renewal and reinvention, so what better time to refresh our skin care routine? Here are some of our favorite products to freshen tired winter skin and hair and get you ready for the lovely spring weather that's heading our way!

Slough off dry, dead skin with Your Best Face Prep Microdermabrasion ($80 in the shop). Your Best Face Prep is a creamy microdermabrasion treatment that infuses skin with botanicals that brighten and soothe, vitamins and antioxidants that heal and protect, and peptides that smooth existing wrinkles and help prevent new ones. This treatment leaves skin feeling gently polished and also enhances the effectiveness of products that follow it.

The antioxidant power of vitamin C can help your skin recover from the damage inflicted by harsh winter weather. E'shee Serum Vitalizing C ($119 in the shop) will help to brighten skin, fade hyperpigmention and reduce wrinkles. It uses a bioefficient form of vitamin C that works without waste and is gentle, even for very sensitive skin. This serum also contains the antioxidants mulberry and ginkgo biloba, the latter of which is an anti-inflammatory as well.

To deeply hydrate and rejuvenate tired skin, try Sciote Illume Brightening Creme ($85 in the shop). It contains potent concentrations of glycolic acid (5%) and kojic acid (3%) to restore skin's radiance and clarity. This cream has a perfect medium-weight consistency that disappears into the skin very easily and leaves no residue or greasy feeling on the surface or to the touch.

For some, spring weather triggers allergies that cause puffy eyes. Lumavera Anti-Aging Eye Cream ($80) has no parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, artificial colors or fragrances — just an all-natural ingredient list that includes an antioxidant "veggie blend" along with aloe vera. This cream minimizes puffiness, dark circles, wrinkles and loss of firmness while still being gentle around the delicate eye area.

A body scrub is an excellent way to heal dry, flaky winter skin and get it ready for skin-baring spring fashions. S.W. Basics Body Scrub ($22) uses organic shredded coconut and demerara sugar to slough off dull, dead skin cells, while it moisturizes with extra-virgin coconut oil. It leaves skin soft, smooth and polished — a great prep for body lotion.

As temperatures get warmer, people often switch their heavy-duty moisturizing lotion for something lighter. Sciote Body Firming Lotion ($40 in the shop) packs a plethora of nourishing and moisturizing ingredients into its lightweight formula, including organic cold-pressed avocado, organic coconut, grape seed oil, organic shea, aloe and olive squalane. It's great for healing dry, flaky and scaly winter skin and leaving it hydrated and healthy looking.

Winter weather can leave lips chapped and dry. RMS Beauty Lip & Skin Balm ($25) is a versatile balm that heals, protects and hydrates skin while softening fine lines. It contains organic, natural ingredients such as coconut oil, shea butter fruit, jojoba seed oil, argan oil, cocoa seed butter and gotu kola to nourish and soften skin on lips, underneath the eyes and even on cuticles.

Restore a healthy shine to dull winter hat hair with Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask ($26 in the shop). Its nourishing blend of avocado, sweet almond and argan oils, keratin protein and hair-essential vitamins B5, D, A, E and biotin, will hydrate, strengthen and add lustrous shine while increasing hair elasticity.

Since you'll soon be spending more times outdoors, you'll want to protect your skin from sun exposure. Suntegrity 5-in-1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen ($45 in shop) is a tinted facial sunscreen with SPF 30 that treats, hydrates, protects, primes and covers the skin. It contains antioxidants and zinc-oxide to fight free radical damage and prevent sun damage. For body, try Suntegrity All Natural Moisturizing Body Protection SPF 30 ($24 in the shop). It gives broad spectrum protection against harmful ultraviolet rays, both UVA and UVB.
