Pangea Organics

August 28, 2010 Reviewed by admin 0 Comments
Pangea Organics founder and CEO Joshua Onysko started off making soap in his garage at night back in 2000. His travels across Asia had led him to a realization that corporations were inheriting the earth and that he should be leading by example to influence others to change their ways. His solution: sell high quality organic, personal care products as a means to a greater end. Onysko’s dream was to start an institute that would aid existing corporations in becoming more socially responsible and environmentally sound, but he first needed to fund the project with his own business. Thus, Pangea was born.

The Good:

The brand creates products that are organic, handcrafted, fair-trade and cruelty-free. They shun the use of ingredients such as petrochemicals, parabens, GMOs or other synthetic ingredients. And, the company claims that all of their ingredients break down within 48 hours of use, meaning they are biodegradable and therefore better for the planet. As was Onysko’s original goal, a portion of Pangea’s profits are put toward the Pangea Institute, a non-profit that researches and teaches all aspects of sustainable living and business practices. Even more incredible, some of the company’s product boxes are made using a zero-waste process that mashes 100% post-consumer paper with organic seeds. So instead of throwing it away, you can soak the box in water and plant it in the earth, Jimmy’s packaging contained Genovese sweet basil.

The Bad:

Jimmy has been gushing about this brand, everything from its lip balm to their face mask, nothing negative here.

The Truth:

TIA has applauded the brand on multiple occasions ever since Jimmy reviewed it in 2008. Pangea Organics was in a roundup of TIA’s favorite green brands and the Egyptian Basil Mint body cleanser was in our five best cleansers of 2010. We’ve also been fans of the Massage and Body Oil with jojoba seed oil and cardamom, the jack-of-all-trades matcha tea, acai and goji berry mask, and the shower gel with white sage, geranium and yarrow. Given that the packaging is eco-friendly in its zero waste process and that the products contain no parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs, or triclosan, we give it a general thumbs up. We think Mother Earth may agree.
