With Valentine's Day less than a week away, you are probably steeling yourself for one of three sentiments: anticipation, indifference, or dread. Whether you are a hopeless romantic or a professed Hallmark-hater, Valentine's can be an exciting holiday for all if you're equipped with the right gear. A potted plant for a friend, an indulgent dinner for one, or a pamper-fest for that special someone are equally enjoyable ways to celebrate. For the latter, I would recommend Patyka Organic Eucalyptus Massage Oil ($17).

I took this massage oil for a test rub-down over the weekend, and on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of enjoyment, my boyfriend was a blissful 12. In his words, "It went on smoothly and evenly and allowed you to get to the deep muscles without pulling at my skin or hair." Unlike other massage emollients I have tested in the past, Patyka's massage oil has unprecedented lasting power, even on particularly dehydrated skin. Because of its staunch refusal to dry, I was not forced to reapply every few minutes, interrupting the massage experience.

The consistency is neither too runny (resulting in a slippery mess) nor too creamy (resulting in desperate rubbing to spread it out). I found that the oil absorbed nicely into the skin and made it feel almost like satin. Luxurious to the touch, this special solution is the body's best friend during the winter, restoring moisture to the skin while relaxing the mind and muscles.

Patyka's all-organic massage oil uses a blend of essential oils to nourish the skin and neutralize free radicals. Argan and muscat rose oils, both rich in fatty acids and sterols, are combined with sesame seed, jojoba, and eucalyptus oils to repair the skin's hydrolipidic film and revitalize aging skin. All of these natural oils team up to produce a scent that is wonderfully stimulating and refreshing.

The only downside to a combination of pure oils is an obvious tendency to stain, a fact that I wish I had recalled before leaving a greasy handprint on the bed. Amateur masseuses beware: do not try this at home on your high thread-count sheets. I'd recommend laying down a towel before beggining the massage.

The Eucalyptus Massage Oil is one of 11 face and body products in Patyka's new Green line, all of which are under $20 and certified by Ecocert. Thus, these affordable nuggets of organic goodness are not only safe for humans, but the environment too. Patyka uses only the finest raw materials and adheres to strong Fair Trade principles, helping conventional farms make the transition to certified organic farming.

The entire Patyka line is made in France, the romance capital of the world. And how can you resist the adorable packaging with its bold colors and whimsical typography? You can purchase a bottle of your own Patyka love potion at boutiques nationwide or online at
