Pumpkin carves out a roll in skincare

Dull Skin, Oily Skin

With pumpkins  the size of small planets stacked up in supermarkets, it is the time of year to think about the cosmetic uses for America's favorite squash. Pumpkins are full of beta-carotene, one of the plant carotenoids that is converted to vitamin A in the body. Pumpkin is also a good source of thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, pantothenic acid, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin C, vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), riboflavin, potassium, copper and manganese.

Pumpkin has an instant effect too: its enzymes break down the outer layers of the skin, working as a natural exfoliant to remove dead skin and decongesting pores.

My most recent pumpkin find is Vapour's Instant Skin Perfector, a multi-tasking primer and concealer that also delivers good things to the skin. Harry Potter fans will be pleased to find pumpkin juice in Yes To Carrots Body Butter. We found pumpkin in one of our Five Best lip balms, Intelligent Nutrients, while Mychelle's pumpkin peel, demonstrates the squash's exfoliating properties. As does Peter Thomas Roth's peel. Pumpkin is supposed to help counteract male hair loss and it crops up in Nioxin's Scalp Therapy and the same logic would seem to extend it to inclusion in eyelash growth products such as the one by Nutra-Lift.
