Reader Review: Sothys Gommage Exfoliant and Spicy Shower Gel

I remember as a child there was something mesmerizing about smearing library paste on my hands and arms and then slowly peeling off the dried “skin”. If I couldn’t wait for it to dry, then I’d rub it with my fingertips and roll off bits and pieces. This latter method is what is employed with the Sothys Gommage Exfoliant (for all skin types).

I love playing with products so this indulges me a bit. The exfoliating aspect is quite light but is something my skin could tolerate a few times a week without any problem. This product might be a good option for someone whose skin does not react well to exfoliants with more “roughage”.

Although I was a bit concerned about putting beeswax, mineral oil, and lanolin on my combination skin, I appear to have suffered no ill effects, but all things considered, I probably won’t use this in the future because of these ingredients. There are also parabens, if that is something you are concerned about.

The ingredients list varies from site to site, but what is on the box I have states: Aqua (water, cellulose, glycerin, avena sativa (oat) kernel flour, paraffinum liquidum (mineral oil), magnesium aluminum silicate, Myristyl myristate, cera alba (beeswax), propylene glycol, posysorbate 60, Sorbitan stearate, cetyl alcohol, lanolin alcohol, xanthan gum, methylparaben, diazolidinyl urea, parfum (fragrance), propylparaben, w-bromo-2-nitropropane-1, 3-diol, butylparaben, ethylparaben, isoeugenol, limonene, BHT.

I must say that my skin does feel and look nice afterwards. However, the feel is a little heavier than I would like.

Sothys Spicy Shower Gel, on the other hand, I like very much indeed. It is very luxurious, silky feeling, and leaves my skin cleansed, hydrated, with an aroma of something wonderful baking in the kitchen. The scent is light- not overpowering- it does not last a long time. Now, this is fine by me, but it may not be fine with others. The silky skin does last, though.

There are parabens and sodium laureth sulfate in this shower gel, if you find those problematic. Otherwise, there is plenty to love about this yummy shower gel.
