Although I remain a loyal fan of Tracie Martyn's Amla Cleanser, I do have another facial cleanser to recommend: Stem Organics Gentle Cleansing Milk. It is a massage in to dry skin and then rinse off cleanser that leaves skin clean and soft and does a very good job of closing enlarged pores. The texture is really nice, as is the smell and the overall feeling is a gentle but fresh start to the day.
It contains the four signature ingredients that are in all of Stem's products: pomegranate (an anti-oxidant with an impressive scientific pedigree); kakadu (packed with vit C); aloe; and Australian bush flower. In addition, there is echinacea, horse chestnut, mandarin, kelp and chamomile.
Stem's products are also valuable for what isn't in them: no parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals or dioxins. Stem also boasts that it doesn't use propylene glycol. This intrigued me because it is diol alcohol that is used as an emulsifier in many, many cosmetic products. Propylene glycol is sometimes used in anti-freeze and I admit that doesn't endear me to it. On the other hand, there is no evidence that it is toxic or carcinogenic and the Center for Disease Control proclaims it safe.
