Nioxin's Niospray Power Hold Hair Spray ($13.49, 13.2 oz).

I love hair spray, and have only grown to love it more so as I have lived this past year-and-a-half in New York City. It's a requisite part of my beauty routine, and I must admit I'm a bit heavy-handed when it comes to the application. I just spray and spray and spray and spray, and hope that my hair will stay in place and retain as much volume as possible.

I'm not sure what percentage of responsibility I personally own for the hole in the o-zone layer, but I reckon it's mounting higher and higher, day by day. That's why I was happy to receive a rather over-sized sample of Nioxin's Niospray Power Hold Hair Spray ($13.49, 13.2 oz).

"Formulated to protect your fine hair from becoming dry and brittle while producing volume and texture. NioSpray® gives style and support in any weather without buildup or flaking" the marketing copy reads on their website.

But what is NioSpray?

On the bottle it reads: "Niospray Power Hold is a finishing spray that maximizes volume and lift, while adding body and shine. Retains style memory and protects the hair from becoming dry or brittle. BioAmp adds thickness from inside the cuticle and strengthens the hair shaft. Supports styles in all types of weather. Helps provide UV protection for hair."

Sounds nice, doesn't it?  What limp-headed, baby-fine gal wouldn't want a hairspray that realizes such promises?

The sad fact is that Nioxin does a good job volumizing your hair for about, oh say... the time it takes to flip and twist and head out the door.  From there on, it's limp locks all the way.  Flat, dead hair that looks worse than if you were just to leave it alone.

It's completely useless in the near- and long-term, and for that it gets my rejection.
