One of the newest trends in today’s skincare is the use of stem cells, with plant stem cells appearing ever more frequently in skincare products.  Marta’s recent post on the Five Best Stem Cell Serums bears out their popularity and witnesses that many users have achieved positive results.

Reviva Labs has gone in the same direction, adding to their line a Stem Cell Booster Serum ($30) with Uttwiler Spatlauber Swiss Apple Stem Cells that I have been using for the past several weeks.  I found this product interesting, as the name implies it is to be considered a “booster,” used in conjunction with other products.  Instructions are to apply the serum AM and PM before applying your day or night cream/serum (or favorite products).  I’m keen on the idea of a product that would amplify the effects of products that I already like and use, so I set out using my regular products on one side of my face and using the same products on the other side with the addition of the Stem Cell Booster Serum.  (The regular products I used were:  daytime – Osmotics Crease-Less andKaplan MD Intensive Eye Cream; night time – YBF Restore and ReLuma Eye Cream ($95).

The serum itself is more of a light cream than a serum, fragrance-free and paraben-free with the only unusual ingredient being the apple stem cell extract.  As directed, I lightly massaged it in and waited a few minutes before applying other products.  It absorbed straight away into my skin without any problem and didn’t cause any breakouts during the whole time I used it.

After following the same daily routine and carefully watching for almost six weeks, I couldn’t see any difference from one side of my face to the other.  After four weeks I even tried the booster by itself in one small, previously untreated area for the remaining time to see if there might be a change, but there was not any.  At the four week timeline I didn’t think it would make a difference, but I also tried reversing the order by applying my products first, then the Stem Cell Booster Serum, but I still could see no change, so despite my best efforts this product just didn’t work for me.

Ingredients: Purified water, glycerin, organic aloe leaf juice, emulsifying wax NF, malus domestica apple stem cell culture extract, xanthan gum, lecithin (soy), organic flax seed oil, organic borage oil, organic green apple extract, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethiconol, carbomer 940, phenoxyethanol, ethyl hexyl glycerin.
