When I read Marta’s review of the Royal Nectar Moisturizing Face Lift ($55/50ml in the shop), I immediately made a mental note to add it to my lengthy wish list of products to try. Imagine my surprise when Marta later sent me a jar (does she use a Ouija board, or could she have been reading my mind?). Either way, I smiled all the same.
As intriguing as the concept of a skincare product with bee venom is, I was even more interested to find the venom contains peptides. I was familiar with the anti-bacterial and healing properties of Manuka honey. So with these ingredients at the top of the list as well as vitamin E and skin-nourishing oils of avocado, evening primrose, apricot and rose hip rounding out the menu, I couldn’t wait to indulge in this “royal” concoction.
Facial moisturizers have always presented a dilemma for me. Since I naturally have quite oily skin, my first concern with any moisturizer is whether it will increase the oiliness. I was happy to discover this one did not. Right out of the jar I found the product has a nice light texture that absorbs immediately without any residue or greasiness. I also like that it left my skin matte. Applied to my face and neck each morning and night, I found as an added benefit it soothed my skin well after my morning shave, as it kept any post-shave irritation and redness at bay. It turned out to be just the right amount of moisture to keep my skin hydrated throughout the day but also light enough that when used at night, I felt that my skin could still breathe. Another favorable attribute is that a little bit goes a long way – after a month of use I had half a jar left. Also important to mention, I didn’t have any breakouts while using the product.
Aside from doing a great job at moisturizing, I also noticed an improvement in the texture of my skin, especially on my neck – it was visibly smoother. (And I really haven’t had any products that produced any results for the neck.) Although I don’t see any “lifting” effect, I am pleased with the improvement I have experienced. As a side note, I did get a nice compliment while visiting my dermatologist’s office. The nurse practitioner remarked how well my skin looked and asked what I had been doing different. Since the Royal Nectar was the only product I had been using, I must have it to thank. My only suggestion for improving the product would be to have it packaged in a pump, rather than a jar. I intend to keep it in my daily routine as it performed well for me, and I would recommend it for guys and gals alike.
It also appears that the company that makes Royal Nectar is looking ahead. In doing my research I checked out its Facebook page (Nelson Honey), and the company is promising a facial cleanser to come out soon – can’t wait to try it, too.
