The Truth in Aging website has been my go-to for years. I don’t know if my situation is unique but I certainly don’t read a lot of reviews from men, particularly men in their 50s, who are trying to look their best without a complicated skincare routine.  The Truth in Aging website doesn’t care if I’m male or female therefore it doesn’t market to an identified sex or demographic. It speaks skincare and only skincare, in plain language, by real people who have specific needs and are looking to address them based on their individual concerns, skin types, budget, etc. It will continue to be my go-to for the foreseeable future.

Typically, I’m looking for a single product. I don’t have the time or inclination to use multiple products, serums, etc. My morning and evening routine is to shower, sometimes shave, apply a moisturizer, and go.  I’m happy to use a separate daytime and nighttime moisturizer and I’m not opposed to a separate eye cream (middle eastern male with combination/oily skin who is prone to dark circles.)  I’m also a proponent of using more natural products whenever it’s realistic to do so.  So when Marta and her team gave me the opportunity to test Scändic Skincare’s Skön ($75 in the shop), a product that that might meet everything on my checklist, I happily accepted.

Two of the key targeted benefits that made Scändic skincare’s Skön product attractive to me was that it is primarily an all-in-one product and that it also targeted brightening of the skin. I am a middle eastern man with olive skin that can look dull and dark in between monthly professional facials (yes, I get to a professional on a monthly basis.)  I was hopeful this product, in addition to fitting into my routine of an all-in one, would also keep my skin looking brighter in between my monthly esthetician appointments.

Scändic Skincare’s foundation is based on blending natural botanicals with cutting edge anti-aging ingredients to form what is ideally as natural a product as they can manage to produce realistically that is “vegan and free of animal testing, gluten, parabens, phthalates, sulfates and SLSs”.

The ingredient list is long and loaded with natural plant-based ingredients such as shea butter, grape seed oil, avocado oil and various other flower and plant extracts. But there are also a few ingredients that are necessary evils such as sodium benzoate (a preservative) and a few others. Ingredients I didn’t recognize were looked up in the Truth in Aging ingredient database (their list is exhaustive). However, I didn’t see anything alarming nor did I experience any irritation from this product.

So, it fit my routine, promised goals that I was trying to achieve, was mostly natural and non-irritating, and sells in the TIA store at a very reasonable price point. Did it work? It did. My skin was brighter, felt moist without being shiny or feeling greasy, and much to my surprise, evened out my skin tone to the point where it almost appears that I am wearing foundation. I’ve not experienced that before in any product at any price point. Even more unusual is that it worked fast. Over the years I’ve noticed that I need to give products a solid 90 days or longer to see visually noticeable results. 30 days just isn’t realistic for me. This gave me a noticeable result in just a couple of weeks.

There is something about this product I do not like. And for me, it’s a big one. It doesn’t spread easily. Not at all. The instructions state to begin with a single pump at night and work your way up to a higher amount based on your needs without irritating your skin.  A single pump wouldn’t get past my forehead and cheeks. I had to use 2 or 3 pumps to cover the necessary area. Perhaps if I used a recommended serum beforehand it would have spread more easily? But even at 3 pumps a night the bottle is lasting past 30 days. This is an excellent product I’ll be keeping in my arsenal as my night treatment for the long term.
