Known to formulate with cutting-edge ingredients that are still natural and safe, Sciote has become quite the reputable brand in the TIA shop. Given that, I was super excited to review the Sciote Vitium Moisture Treatment ($67) as part of the Vitium Anti-Blemish line. The product intends to moisturize and soothe the skin while feeding it nourishing antioxidants. It is ideal for oily and acne-prone skin.
The product touts jojoba, arginine and vitamin E as its key actives. Jojoba oil is non-comedogenic and it also allows for other products to penetrate better. Arginine acts as a wound-healer and also hydrates, and I imagine it should help with light scarring caused by breakouts. Vitamin E protects and acts as a natural hydrator for the skin.
I’m in my late 20s with combination skin that has some light acne scarring and is prone to breakouts. As the positive reviews have been flooding in for Sciote, I was full of hope. As much as I hate to say it, while I'm not completely disappointed, I can’t say that I'm too impressed. Did the Moisture Treatment keep my skin hydrated? Sure — but for a very brief period of time. Did the Moisture Treatment help with breakouts? Not particularly. While I didn’t see an increase in breakouts, I didn’t notice a reduction either.
While the Sciote Vitium Moisture Treatment is a fine product, at the end of the day, I don't feel like it's done much for my skin to justify the cost (though the product comes in a generously sized pump). Perhaps I will explore the rest of the Sciote line to see if I was just unfortunate to find the one mediocre apple in the barrel.
