Greetings, TIA community! I was graciously asked to sample two different products that contain sea buckthorn oil as one of the superstar ingredients. Sea buckthorn oil is regarded as a powerhouse of fatty acids, including the rare omega 7, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and the list continues! It is said to improve a variety of skin aliments including acne, rosacea, burns, wounds as well as cardiovascular and nervous system health. Additionally, it is now being studied for weight-loss benefits and wrinkle reduction. Wow, I had never even heard of this amazing little berry before, but it sure is on my radar now!

Okay, so on to the products. The first was Tilvee Argan & Sea Buckthorn Age-Defying Creme ($35). The ingredient list is a dream lineup of natural ingredients! Let me just say that I am always a little skeptical of “natural” products. Somehow I feel like only science can uncover the mysteries of aging and restore my skin to the image of perfection that I have in my mind - as if poor Mother Nature is the cause of all my troubles with gravity and sunlight and all of the daily atmospheric assaults on my face and body. Suffice it to say, I feel a little more trusting of my “mother” after trying these products.

The Tilvee comes in a hefty jar of paste-like cream. It resembles clay and has a slightly medicinal smell, but is not at all unpleasant. The FIRST ingredient is aloe, not water, like so many other moisturizers. It is quite thick, but to my surprise and delight it is very quickly absorbed. The finish is a little shiny, but it works well under foundation. The list of good things continues on with rose distillate, shea butter, calendula extract, cocoa butter, and so on. I can’t say that I necessarily saw any huge changes in my skin, but I will say it definitely feels supple and super moisturized after using it regularly. I really like this one and will definitely consider buying it.

The second product that I sampled was Dr. Mercola Organic Sea Buckthorn Serum. I had a harder time learning to love this one. First off, serum is not the correct word. A better description would be “oil,” as that is what this product is. The first ingredient is almond oil and second is sea buckthorn oil. It is great to see these as the primary ingredients, especially seeing the star ingredient so high up on the list. Not many products come close in that department. Usually I find the ingredients that are the ones that are supposed to be helping a condition buried amongst undesirables way down at the bottom. Not so here. Also, nothing in this one is going to give me a tumor the size of Kansas in my old age.

The oiliness was what I had a hard time with. It just never seemed to absorb. That made it difficult to use on my face and also made me wonder if it’s not absorbed can it really do much good? I did, however, find other uses for this “serum.” I applied it generously to my neck and chest and to the backs of my hands, and cracked fingers. I even rubbed some of the oil on a chafe that I got from my bra while running. It was a pretty yucky one, angry red with several scabs. After putting the oil on before bed, it was noticeably better in the morning - which may be a testament to the healing properties of sea buckthorn oil. It was great for those alternate uses, but I just don’t see much use for it as a facial product.

Thanks again TIA community for all of the great info, and for giving me the opportunity to sample and share!

I bought this 5 months ago at Marta's recommendation when I need a strong moisturizer for some dry, flaky skin patches, and I've bee loving it every day since then! I use this every morning and at night, over my serum and other age-defying skin care essentials, and under makeup. The thick, clean smelling creme soaks in, is not oily, eliminates flakes and calms some of the redness. It does not make my skin breakout. I will buy this again and again. Thanks for another great product, Marta!

Thanks for a great review, Amy S! I have been using the Tilvee off and on for about six months and absolutely love it -- I alternate it with other products and usually use it as a day cream when I'm just running to the gym, etc. I think it's wonderfully moisturizing and considering what is in it, it is the best bargain going. There are other great creams out there which I enjoy using but I think this is an extraordinary value.
