Skin Beautiful Dermaceuticals describes itself as a holistic skin care system that combines positive thinking with natural-based anti-aging products. The line was launched in 2013 to enhance both outer and inner beauty.

Each Skin Beautiful Dermaceuticals product comes with an "Affirmacize," an affirmation on a cling that adheres to your bathroom mirror. Mine read, "I am letting the past dissolve and living fully this beautiful moment." The idea is to meditate on the positive thought as you go through your skin care routine. SBD combines its focus on positive thinking with products that are free of parabens, artificial fragrance and colorants, phthalates, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, and animal products or byproducts.

I tested Skin Beautiful Dermaceuticals Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment ($20/2 oz), a clear gel that comes in a brown glass bottle and is dispensed through a pump. The product may be used as a 20-minute mask or as an overnight treatment. For overnight use, it can be applied after treatment serums and before moisturizers.

Skin Beautiful Dermaceutical Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment promises that "With regular use, skin becomes more luminous, vibrant, and radiantly clear." How does it propose to accomplish this? Through three "action" ingredients, including:

1. Stabilized oxygen, which they say penetrates deep into skin layers to reduce redness, irritation, discoloration, and breakouts. SBD also claims the oxygen helps produce collagen and elastin for firmer, younger looking skin.

2. A super-fruit complex, including extracts of pomegranate, cranberry, raspberry and blueberry, provides antioxidants to combat free radical damage and UV exposure.

3. Lycopene, a free radical scavenging carotenoid that improves texture and boost the skin’s ability to build collagen.

I love the inclusion of antioxidants and free radical scavengers. When it comes to oxygen in skin care products however, I am skeptical. Its effectiveness is the subject of debate and has been widely discussed on Truth In Aging. Many experts claim there’s no scientific evidence that oxygen can penetrate the skin or even that it can stay in a product to begin with. To me, the research appears inconclusive.

So what did I think of Skin Beautiful Dermaceuticals Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment? The scent is immediately appealing; it has a nice fruity fragrance that reminds me of the penny candy I'd get at the corner store as a kid. The clear gel is easily massaged into the skin and dries to a matte finish.

I used the product on my face and neck as directed for a month. On occasion, I would use it as a 20-minute mask, but usually I'd just apply it over treatment serums and leave it on all night. I experimented with a variety of serums from my bathroom cabinet: exfoliating, antioxidant, moisturizing, brightening, you name it. Thinner, liquid serums that absorbed into the skin worked best when paired with Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment. It was difficult to apply the product effectively over thicker cream or gel serums.

As for the affirmation on my bathroom mirror, I was glad to have that little reminder to live in the moment. It helped reframe my perspective and bolstered my gratitude.

After four weeks of use, I could not detect any change in my skin, good or bad. That being said, I wasn't having any major issues when I began testing Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment. Since the product had no ill effects on my skin, I wasn't prepared to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I decided to try Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment with my Ultra Renew Ultrasonic LED device ($89 in the store). That's when I hit pay dirt. Its antioxidant properties make it a great free radical scavenger for use with LED. In addition, the water-based gel provides the perfect slipperiness for the ultrasound mode.

At $20 for a two-ounce bottle, Skin Beautiful Dermaceuticals Skin Rescue Oxygen Treatment is a good price for an antioxidant gel. The product lasts a long time, too. After a month of very generous use, I still have two-thirds left. I will happily continue to use it to enhance the great results I get with my Ultra Renew device.
