Testing Skin Nutrition LIVE Phyto Fusion Smoothie Rejuvenating Facial Oil ($55.95) has been a very pleasant experience from the start. Skin Nutrition products do not contain any “nasties” and the company’s goal is overall skin wellness through the application of products containing bioactive ingredients. The Phyto Fusion Smoothie contains more than a dozen plant oils with phytonutrients and antioxidants providing loads of benefits, including claims that they rejuvenate, nourish and detoxify skin, balance skin tone, boost collagen and elastin production, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The product is to be massaged into skin after cleansing and applying other skin care products.
My aging, drying, breakout-prone, sensitive skin responded beautifully to this lightweight oil. It was very easy to apply a few dots to my face and then gently massage them in. My skin drank it up and was immediately hydrated and soothed — I could almost hear it sigh, “Ahhhhh.” Initially, there was a slight oily feeIing, so I let it absorb for about 15 minutes before going to sleep, and woke up to soft and hydrated skin, with little product on my pillowcase (some products seem better absorbed by my pillowcase than by my face). This facial oil absorbs so nicely that I can even use it during the day under makeup (after allowing time for it to soak in) with wonderful results and none of the dry flakes that makeup or mineral powder tend to cling to. Later in the day, my face was not any more oily than the usual bit I have in the t-zone. My fine lines aren’t as noticeable, perhaps because they are well hydrated, and I have had fewer blemishes pop up. As far as the other claims, I’m looking forward to seeing the results after testing this over a longer period of time.
This facial oil comes in a glass bottle with a pump top — my only complaint being that sometimes oil creeps up the sides of the pump top and I end up with a bit more product than I need for my face (thought it is never wasted because I massage any extra onto my cuticles with great results). The natural scent (no added fragrances) is light and “earthy” and fades quickly, but does not completely disappear. I am very sensitive to scents and this one is inoffensive and unnoticeable to myself once applied (I only noticed that the scent lingered after I had applied it to my hand).
I can’t help but compare this to Your Best Face Private Reserve Antioxidant Oil ($75 in the shop), which also produces nice results. The biggest difference is that Skin Nutrition LIVE Phyto Fusion Smoothie is a lighter, “drier” oil and absorbs more completely, whereas the YBF oil leaves a slightly heavier, slightly oilier feeling for longer (even using a tiny amount), and I cannot use YBF under makeup. While both are excellent products, I lean towards the Skin Nutrition.
