One of my favorite product lines has come out with more affordable anti-aging solutions: Uplift , Youth Serum, Expression Line Deep Wrinkle Serum, Apricot Scrub and Brightening Cleanser.

The Brightening Cleanser (chirally correct and paraben and sulfate free) is formulated using rumex occidentalis extract and L-carnatine to lighten and combat hyperpigmentation and other skin discoloration.  Rumex occidentalis extract is a natural tyrosinase inhibitor derived from the Western Dock plant.  Tyrosinase is an enzyme that accelerates the production of melanin (pigment) in the skin.  L-carnatine is an amino acid that is said to improve skin’s elasticity.

I have really enjoyed using this cleanser.  There is little fragrance and it consists of a clear gel consistency contained in a pump dispenser bottle (for ease of use).  While it does retail for $24.50, a little goes a long way and I often use it along with my Clarisonic brush.  It does seem to brighten my complexion and help me counter the large pores on my nose.  I think it’s too soon to see a drastic improvement in the age spots I’ve managed to accumulate at this point in my life.  Plus, I do wonder how much a cleanser can impact age spots when it is on your skin so fleetingly.  Skin Perfection does offer a Brightening Serum which I may try next.

In addition to the Brightening Cleanser, I also sampled the Apricot Scrub.  While I applaud the effort to offer a natural/organic cleansing scrub, I would not recommend the Apricot Scrub.  To be honest, I think I am spoiled by the intoxicating citrus scent of YBF’s Prep.  Further, I prefer smaller, more uniform granules in my scrubs and had a problem with the pump dispenser discharging the product arbitrarily.  However, at $14.50, it is a more affordable option than Prep and does contain quality ingredients.

As for the Youth Serum and Expression Deep Line Serum (both of which are clear gel products provided in airless pump dispensers), I’ve been using them both in tandem and have seen some improvements.  The Youth Serum Collagen Builder and Tightening Treatment contains many of the tried and true ingredients touted on TIA: Matrixyl 3000 (10%), Teprenone (Renovage), Spin Trap, Syn Coll, Hyaluronic Acid, etc.  The additional component to this product is Relistase (20%) which has been shown to stimulate collagen production and enhance the resilience in mature skin.  I’d like to think that I’ve not yet reached the “mature skin” category here in my late 30’s however I tend to look at this product as a preventative.  Along with the Expression Line Deep Wrinkle Serum (which contains Snap 8-15%, Matrixyl 3000-10%, Argireline-10%, Syn-Ake-%5 and Syn-Coll-5%) I’ve noticed my skin is plumper, dewier and some of the lines (predominantly around my eyes) have softened.  These are products I plan to keep in my “anti-aging arsenal” for some time.  The ingredients of both products are so similar; at $29.95 you could get away with just one or combine them, like I have been, for double duty.

To assist in my quest to stop the lines that form around the eyes, I’ve been using Uplift.  Uplift, using aloe as a base, contains Regu Age which “supplies oxygen to the eye area reducing the appearance of dark circles and under eye puffiness then strengthens the connective tissue that can be damaged by UV exposure resulting in fewer wrinkles and tighter skin”.  Additionally, it contains copper peptides, Syn-Coll, spin trap, alpha arbutin and licorice root and eye seryl.  These ingredients combine together to rebuild and renew, fight puffiness and discoloration and firm the delicate eye area.  I enjoy using this light creamy product around my eye area.  It sinks right in and my eye area feels moisturized without feeling oily or heavy.  At $38.95, it is definitely a quality anti-aging eye product worth checking out.

Skin Perfection continues to be a solid go-to source for me as I look for affordable natural/organic anti-aging skin care.  If you’ve not had a chance to try them, visit their website.  They have a full range of skin care products as well as mineral make up options, sunscreen and bath products.

I use the Grapefuit Glycolic Scrub from Made from Earth - its an anti-wrinkle scrub, as my dermatologist recommended.

It does dry the skin out a little, but the glycolic is good for the skin as it promotes collagen and exfoliates the skin. You have to use a good moisturizer along with this product because of the drying effect, I use the Made from Earth rosehip serum. I also use this once per night, and I never miss an application. Don't get it close to your eye's because it's pretty strong and caused some irritation around mine.
