My latest review for Truth in Aging is of the SkinActives Antioxidant Serum with Glutaredoxin and SOD ($25.25). Today is a 39°C day in Australia and I am taking refuge under the aircon to write this.

This product comes in a neat 1-oz green tinted pump pack to protect the ingredients from light, which is pretty clever packaging, as it also serves to hide the color of the serum. I must say that I was very unpleasantly surprised by the dark color and unusual earthy smell of this product.

When I applied the serum, with its coffee color, it seemed to make my skin appear rather sallow (as I am considerably pale). Therfore, I only used it at night under my night cream. I hope I gave it a fair chance....

The ingredients are both unusual and impressive, with lactobacillus and kelp high on the list (I’m guessing the kelp gave it the color and smell that I did not like). Magnesium, vitamin B and hyaluronic acid are also present, though the preservatives of choice are parabens.

SkinActives Antioxidant Serum is a rather runny consistency and a little goes a long way. I really cannot rate it very high because aside from making my skin appear rather yellow (even after it had been gently smoothed in), there were no visible changes. I also couldn’t get past the look and smell of the serum; I honestly believe this would be off-putting to the average person and would not recommend it. I much prefer the Your Best Face Antioxidants Concentrate ($65 in the shop).

Ingredients: Distilled Water (Aqua), Lactobacillus/Kelp Ferment Filtrate, Sodium PCA, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Carnosine (L-),Carnitine (L-), Tetrahydrocurcuminoids (Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane, Tetrahydrodemethoxydiferuloylmethane,  Tetrahydrobisdemethoxydiferuloylmethane),Ferulic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG, Green Tea, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract), Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone, Aloe Polysaccharides  (Aloe barbadensis Leaf Extract), Lycopene, Glutathione, Glutaredoxin, Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Catalase, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea,Methylparaben, Propylparaben

Why don't you have the ELS Serum with Argan Oil and Ceramides any longer? My very dry old skin loved it.
