Snowberry Nourishing Rich Day Cream- reader reviewed and recommended

Wears well under makeup

Too heavy to use during the summer

Recommended for mature, dry skin or those living in dry climates

I keep reading great things about Snowberry Beauty’s different potions on TIA and so I asked – well, begged – to try one of these products. TIA offered me the Snowberry Rich Day Cream ($96), which was a perfect choice for me. I’ve used it for about a month. And in a world of fancy, pseudo-scientific descriptors, the straightforwardly named Nourishing Rich Day Cream is exactly and precisely what it says. For those of us in our 50s, this is a wonderful, effective, and very pleasant cream on its own or under makeup.

Here’s what the company’s website says: “Designed for normal to dry skin, the Rich Day Cream is a powerful and highly absorbable anti-aging formula that nourishes, smoothes, moisturises and revitalises.” (I left New Zealand spelling intact.) And here are a few of Snowberry’s more specific claims:

-Contains mycosoprin extract that clinical trials have shown assists to protect the skin from possible per-oxidation via UVA and environmental pollutants

-Contains superoxide dismutase that clinical trials have shown assists the natural production of collagen, elastins, fibronectins, keratinocytes and hyaluronic acids

-Significant skin moisturisation improvement activity of 39.64%

-Anti-free radical activity (3D test)

So I especially liked the notion that rather than just moisturizing, this cream would have some protective and anti-aging (restorative) qualities. So far, I am delighted with it – it’s been great to use even through bouts of summer weather, and though I can’t yet truly evaluate the real anti-aging effects, it’s an excellent, easily absorbed moisturizer and smoother. And while it is, indeed, a very rich cream, it is not at all greasy, and works just fine under makeup (critical for a day cream).

Several other reviewers have noted the company’s attractive design and packaging, its admirable philosophies (both in product formulation and in environmental impact), and on its interesting and unique botanical product ingredients and formulations. I can only echo those comments here. Rich Day Cream is a very pleasant, thick-ish but not heavy, vanilla-colored cream in an easy-to-use pump; it has a faint vegetal scent, but nothing perfume-y.

One thing that’s very nice about Snowberry’s appealing website is that rather than just list product ingredients, it goes one step further and describes the benefits or purpose of each. There are certainly many entries here that I’d never heard of, especially various seed, algae, and flower extracts, oils, and the like – ranging from tomato extract to white coral algae to peat to mother of pearl extract – and various plant-derived actives and inactives. It’s worth taking a look at the descriptions.

Clearly it’s Snowberry’s “heavy hitter” day cream, priced to match, and it is a bit more expensive than some other day creams I’ve used – though comparable to others I liked less well! So while I might use it less often in the summer weather, I suspect I’ll reach for it constantly in the fall and winter. I’d still strongly recommend Rich Day Cream for those over 50. I also think it’s worth a close look by anyone who has excessively dry skin or is contending with a very dry climate.
