Too light for crisp autumn weather

Idea for warmer weather since it absorbs quickly

I was sent Societe Clinical Skincare Skin Hydration Complex ($52) to test because my skin is thin, fair, combination dry/oily, and very prone to irritation. I used it on one side of my face for a month during late summer. First let me comment on what it did not do:

- No greasy film or residue.
- No increase in breakouts.
- No perfume-y cloud.

This is a light, smooth, almost scentless moisturizer which absorbs quickly and completely. The texture is pleasant and the pump dispenses a perfect amount without dripping or clogging. This is a moisturizer you could carry with you and re-apply throughout the day as needed, without your skin feeling heavy or over-treated.

Societe Clinical Skincare Skin Hydration Complex is specifically formulated to soothe skin after resurfacing procedures like peels or microdermabrasion. I haven't had any of these anti-aging procedures, but I did subject myself to an aging procedure: spending all day out on a boat with no hat or sunscreen. Afterwards I slathered hydration complex all over the sunburn, and my face never peeled or blistered. I was also using YBF Antioxidants Concentrate ($65 in the shop) at the time, and the combination seemed to speed sunburn recovery significantly.

As a moisturizer, it's on the very "light" end of the spectrum -- it's oil-free and relies mainly on hyaluronic acid. This makes it ideal for summer, when many of us need just a touch of skin softening. I noticed as soon as the season started to turn that my face suddenly needed more moisture than the Societe Clinical Skincare Skin Hydration Complex could provide, and I had to reach for something more hydrating to combat the autumn dryness.

It also contains a "Peptide Complex" which is supposed to boost collagen and elastin, so I was hoping to see some improvement in fine lines and wrinkles. But after a month of using it on one side of my face, I wasn't able to discern any difference between the treated and untreated side. Nor did I notice any difference in the frequency of breakouts on the two sides. The info card says it "delivers enhanced results when used with Societe's Intense Firming Complex," so perhaps the two products deliver more noticeable results together.

Bottom line: I would use the Skin Hydration Complex as a light, easily absorbed moisturizer during the summer when other creams tend to be too oily or heavy. I wouldn't look to it for anti-aging results, but would keep it handy to help heal sunburn damage and other summertime irritations.
