I am 50 years old and have normal skin that enjoys nighttime moisturizing. I have expression lines around my eyes, lips and forehead and a loss of elasticity on the jaw and neck. My desired outcome in skin care products is to hydrate my skin while plumping and smoothing its texture. My normal skin care routine includes a soap-free cleanser, a serum, a daytime vitamin C oil and a nighttime moisturizer. I was excited to incorporate Sublime Beauty Collagen Peptide Serum ($46).
For this trial, morning and night, I would apply one pump of the product with my still damp fingers after cleansing. One pump covered my entire face, neck and décolletage. After four weeks, I still have product left so it's generous. The serum is clear, goes on watery and absorbs immediately with no discernible scent. It layered well with other products, but was not aesthetically appealing to use itself. This serum is not sensuous in regard to any of the five senses.
However, I was optimistic of its efficacy due to its claims and ingredients. Sublime Beauty Collagen Serum claims right on the label to be rich in peptides. It contains Matrixyl, known to stimulate collagen production, as well as palmitoyl tripeptide-3, which mimics the skin's process of producing collagen via tissue growth factors. Hexapeptide-11 is also included and has been shown to protect fibroblasts, improve elasticity and suppress cell migration.
Further down the ingredient list you will see hydrolyzed collagen, which is typically a chemically-processed chain of amino acids found in natural collagen that is used to impart a soft and supple appearance to skin. Other notable ingredients include soothing aloe leaf, hydrating sodium hyaluronate, brightening ginseng and lightening shiitake mushroom extract. However, it also contains other ingredients I would need better results from to justify using.
Sadly, I did not discover a winner here. While many of the ingredients are promising, after four weeks of consistent use, the results for me were neither dramatic nor encouraging. There was no improvement in my expression lines or skin laxity. I am now eager to go back to my usual routine.
