I was so excited to test the Sweetsation Choco*Smooch Organic Lip & Face Balm ($12) as I am in my mid-30s and pregnant with my first child, and I knew that this company supports only natural and safe ingredients for mother and baby. There is nothing funky in the ingredient listing — mostly just organic nut and fruit oils. However, because honey is included, this particular product is not recommended for children less than one year of age.
I used this product exclusively on my lips, even though it can be used on chapped parts of the face, as well. Another use that I found helpful was to add a dab to dry cuticle beds. Thankfully, I don't suffer from chronic chapped lips, but occasionally, when I'm dehydrated, I need something moisturizing to get me back on track. This definitely fit the bill. The smell is subtle; it’s not strong at all. Seeing as the first ingredient is cocoa butter, I'm not surprised that this is the smell and taste that is most prominently displayed once applied. It truly melts into your lips and doesn't feel greasy whatsoever. It provides a slight sheen to the lips but not in the way of a gloss.
The packaging is fairly straight forward in terms of your standard lip balm tubing, but the cap has a cool little clip that could be potentially hooked to a key chain or bag. I simply added it to my makeup bag within my purse since that is where I'm most comfortable finding things.
Overall, I am pleased with this product. I like that it has multiple uses and is safe for adults and children alike. And if anyone is keeping track, it rates zero (which means the ingredients are the least hazardous to us) on the Environmental Working Group Skin Deep website (2009 formulation). Another bonus! Definitely give it a try.
