Sweetsation LaNouvel Cellular Nutri Serum ($28) is a very nice moisturizer that is lightweight, fast absorbing and perfect for the warmer weather. If you are looking for a hyaluronic acid product that is turbo-charged with some anti-aging ingredients at a very decent price, then LaNouvel comes recommended.
Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring and widespread within the extracellular matrix (ECM, especially the face. It decreases with age; in fact, adults have only 1/20th the amount of hyaluronic acid of a baby). Hyaluronic acid is able to hold more water than any other natural substance — up to 1,000 times its weight in water! It will draw on environmental moisture and retain it on the skin — so it is typically more effective in humid rather than very dry climates.
Sweetsation has added many good things to LaNouvel Cellular Nutri Serum. I particularly like dragon’s blood extract. Don’t worry, there are no reptiles or mythical beasts here. It is the sap from a South American tree and dries to form a barrier, like a second skin. This may be why when I first tried LaNouvel I wondered if it contained a film former (it doesn’t). Dragon’s blood is an antioxidant and a powerful anti-inflammatory and healer of skin disorders.
There is also resveratrol, the potent antioxidant component in red wine. In a study, a single topical application of resveratrol significantly inhibited UVB-mediated phototoxicity and enhanced skin thickness. Separately, Sweetsation has added red wine polyphenols. The formula has plenty of amino acids, a peptide and alpha lipoic acid.
The scent of Sweetsation LaNouvel Cellular Nutri Serum is not to my liking. I can’t nail what it is, but in any case it dissipates very rapidly and does not mar my enjoyment of this moisturizer.
