TRESemmé was first produced by the Godefroy Manufacturing Company in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1947.
The name TRESemmé is a play on the name of Edna L. Emme, a former spokesperson for the haircare industry.
TRESemmé was initially intended only for use in professional salons.
TRESemmé's slogan is "Professional. Affordable."

While TRESemmé's full ingredient list is nowhere to be found on the company's website, we discovered some ingredients elsewhere on the web, and were less than thrilled by the propylene glycol and chemicals included in some of the company's products. That said, TRESemmé's formulas do contain a number of beneficial ingredients, including keratin and biotin, which are usually reserved for more expensive products. TRESemmé certainly makes good on its claim of affordability, and their products have received favorable reviews from TIA readers in the past.
