Now that I'm in my 30s, my skin care regimen is much simpler compared to when I was still in my 20s — I'm happy to say that I already found the products that work best for me.The biggest discovery happened when my skin started to change due to age — it became drier/less oily than before, and this prompted me to seek more hydrating products that not only moisturized my skin but also kept breakouts at bay and reduced oiliness.
For cleansing, after my usual cleansing oil (to remove sunblock and makeup), I alternate between Shiseido Perfect Whip Cleansing Foam ($9.99) with a Japanese foaming net and the Astara Blue Flame Purifying Gel Cleanser ($42). I find that this combination works quite well for me because I need a good facial cleanser that retains moisture. I also use Astara to keep my chest and back blemish-free.
After cleansing, I really love Sulwhasoo’s Essential Balancing Water ($55) and Essential Balancing Emulsion ($60) because they are very soothing to my skin — both products calm and hydrate so well. This combination also preps my skin for sunblock and makeup application. Sulwhasoo is a Korean brand that focuses on herbal ingredients that restore and maintain hydration and balance to the skin. I find that most of their products work for me.
I am quite low maintenance when it comes to body care, and since I am quite busy working during the day, I tend to favor products that can do the job with minimal effort. After cleansing with a good bar soap, I slather on Trinite Organics Signature Serum ($45) to keep my skin smooth and supple — or Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin C Active Moisture Serum ($68), which is a new product I am testing. Both products lock in moisture and are quite long lasting in terms of hydration. Vitamin C Body Oil also brightens up my skin and is great for fading tan lines after spending my summer on the beach!
For eye creams, I like the History of Whoo Hwanyugo which has a luxurious texture — it goes so well under makeup and keeps my eye area refreshed. I also use Your Best Face Control ($160 in the shop) under the eyes — it works to firm and tighten the skin, and I've never found a product that works better than this, even if the price is a bit steep.
Whenever I get the occasional blemish, I put on the Suki Transformative Cleansing Clay ($48.95), which is such a multitasking product — it's a cleanser, mask and spot treatment in one! It soothes and fades away the blemish after a few days and keeps down redness overnight.
For Sun Protection
Sunblock/sunscreen is a must for me, and I am using Sunplay Powdery White SPF 47 by Mentholatum, which leaves a powdery finish that is semi-matte. I am partial to Japanese sunblocks for their wonderful texture and finish that is never greasy.
At night, my only treatment for the face is the Obagi C-10 Vitamin C serum, which works to lighten existing dark spots and exfoliate the skin without irritation. I am quite impressed with its efficacy because it brightens and keeps my skin clear, and I saw immediate results after just a few days of using it.
