Truth In Aging Olympics- Beauty Tools

July 28, 2012 Reviewed by Marta 0 Comments

Truth In Aging’s skincare Olympics opened yesterday with the winning facial cleansers. Day Two moves to the Awards for Beauty Tools. Home devices that scale back expensive professional treatments have become really effective, efficient and safe in the last couple of years. They are now beauty essentials. The Gold Medal award is more than a little self-serving, but then I do believe that the combination of LED and ultrasonic is a winner. The Silver Medal goes to PaloVia’s home laser treatment. For those that love the benefits of LED, but are constrained by time, Facial Secret takes the Bronze Medal for efficiency. Details below:

Ultra Renew ($89 in the TIA shop). Truth In Aging’s very own at-home ultrasonic/LED device, the Ultra Renew has ultrasound for face firming plus there are three integrated LED lights (so there’s no removal of individual light panels) with red light for wrinkles, green for hyperpigmentation and blue for acne. In only two months it has become bestseller. Long a fan of LED, I am now very impressed with what ultrasonic can do, especially along the jawline, marionette lines and from cheek to temples. With regular use, the firming effects are notable and much better than LED alone. Read more here

PaloVia Skin Renewing Laser ($499). The PaloVia is an at-home device that uses fractional laser resurfacing technology - narrowly spaced micro-beams of laser energy to prompt new collagen growth. It is FDA approved for use around the eyes to reduce fine lines and wrinkles (although it can be used on other areas of the face as well). One of our reviewers said: “While it still may not be the miracle product we've all been searching for, at the moment this is my desert island product.” Read Dennis’ review

Facial Secret ($329). Alright I’ll admit that it looks like an Etch A Sketch on special offer, but we don’t really care about appearances if it works. And this does work. It is LED on steroids. The price point is similar to the Baby Quasar (a small device that has to be moved over the face in sections), but Facial Secret is a better option for my money as it is more convenient and effective treating the face as one area – and in only five short minutes. Use once a day 4-5 times a week and it will keep your face looking firm and plump. Read more
