Chocolate is a huge weakness of mine. Whether delicately sweet and creamy or intensely dark and rich, this delectable treat brings me endless joy. I mean it. Some people can’t go a day without Starbucks or a cup of tea… I can’t go a day without a bite of something chocolaty. I know my fellow chocoholics out there can relate. So of course I jumped at the chance to try one of a handful of products we received from Vered Organic Botanicals: Le Chocolat Citrus Foaming Face Scrub ($50/2oz). I know how yummy chocolate infused with citrus can be, so I just had to try the sample pot.

The first time I used the product, I was slightly disappointed. But I attribute a lackluster first impression to my using the face scrub incorrectly. I was in a mad dash to pack for a trip to Florida, and I grabbed all of my trial-size toiletries. I read “foaming” on the label of the face scrub and assumed it could multitask as a facial cleanser. It cannot. That first night when I tried washing my face with the scrub, there was no foam to be seen… the product, with sugar granules and essential oils, just smeared my makeup and left an oily residue. Lesson learned.

I didn’t try the product again until I was back in New York (I didn’t want to mess with oil-based products on my combination skin when I was dealing with the Sunshine State’s year-round humidity.) This time, I made sure to apply the scrub to freshly cleansed skin. As the directions state, I worked up a light lather in the palm of my hand. The sugar is quite rough, so it’s best not to apply directly to the face.

I have dry patches on my skin, especially around my mouth and chin, so the scrub worked well to both slough and moisturize. When I properly applied it to my face using circular motions, it smelled just as I expected: heavenly, with its warm chocolate notes. After rinsing, my skin was left slightly dewy. This time, my parched skin welcomed the soothing essential oils, organically sourced from Theobroma cacao (the chocolate component), rosewood, pink grapefruit, lemongrass, and sandalwood. I have reached for this product whenever my skin starts to look or feel dull, and it perks me right up (or maybe it’s the scent I find so irresistible).

Ingredients: Jojoba and sweet almond oil; organic castile soap; organic therapeutic-grade essential oils from: cocoa absolute, rosewood, pink grapefruit, lemongrass, sandalwood; organic sugar; organic vitamin E
