W3LL People Universalist- reviewed and recommended

Versatile 3-in-1 makeup for busy women

May be too subtle for some and tester shade is too white for lips

Makeup that looks good and is good for you

W3LL People Universalist is my kind of makeup – now that I know it’s not a concealer (a faux pas that says a lot about my lack of color cosmetic chops). Universalist Luminous Multi-use Colorstick ($33) comes in a stick and can be used for lids, lips and cheeks, perfect for a woman on the go with a strong desire for a minimalist makeup bag and the need for instant gratification.

I have Shade #2, Moonstone Glow, an ivory beige with a hint of shimmer. A dab takes me from drab to luminous. I should say subtly luminous, which is just right by me. It lasts a good while too, even on a steamy New York day. Moonstone Glow works well as an eye shadow. It gives lids and just into the brow bone a subtle sheen that really makes my eyes pop. I like it well enough as a cheek highlighter as well. For lips though, the color makes me look like the ice queen.

Uinversalist is so light and nongreasy that I am barely aware of wearing it. However, I am glad that I am. As well as highlighting my features in a pretty way, W3LL People has thrown in some really nice ingredients. I highly appreciate the notion that my makeup is good for me.

The base is no less than grapeseed oil infused with antioxidant green tea. Then there’s reishi mushroom, shown by researchers to protect DNA from UV damage. I am delighted to see that there is passionflower, an anti-inflammatory and free-radical scavenger. Japanese knotweed is a source of resveratrol, the supercharged antioxidant that is also in wine.

I am so happy that I’ve got to know W3LL People and, judging by the warm welcome from the Truth In Aging community, I am not the only one. Founded by makeup guru Shirley Pinkson, dermatologist Reneé Snyder M.D., and "treehugger" James Walker, they ensure their cosmetics are “powered by 3 core principles: advanced performance, premium natural and organic Ingredients, and social responsibility.” In a huge coup, they were recenty chosen by mega fashion retailer H&M to be the makeup brand of choice in all European flagship stores.

Ingredients: Grapeseed Oil infused with Green Tea, Reishi Mushroom, Bayberry, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Passionflower Oil, Castor Oil, Silica, Coconut Oil, Silk Powder, Castor Isostearate Beeswax Succinate, Essential Oil Blend, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Lysine, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Japanese Knotweed Extract, Pomegranate Extract, May Contain (+/-):, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Mica (CI 77019), Carmine (CI 75470), Manganese Violet (CI 77742)

Hi Firefly, we are so sorry that you did not enjoy your Universalist! We'd love to help you out. What color did you try? If it was the highlighting stick, Universalist 2, my favorite 'glow' spots are on the upper cheekbones near the outer half of the eye, and on the bridge of the nose.

Feel free to email the makeup guru herself, Shirley, for more tips and suggestions! We are always happy to help!

Tried the sample in several places on my face and eyes and it just didn't work with my fair to light olive skin tone. It left a very strange, streaky silver color that highlighted my pores and made me look rather ill. The smell was reminiscent of natural products which have gone sour. I'll pass on this one.
