A couple of years ago, I got a call from one of the TV shopping channels. They were interested in featuring our ultrasound and LED device. My first thought was how did a huge TV shopping channel even know about Truth In Aging and our newly launched device? “Oh,” the guy said, “whenever I get pitched by a new beauty product, I check out the reviews on your website to see if it’s any good.”
As I puffed up with pride, I was quickly deflated by his next question: “Do you have a 510K?” To which I lamely responded, “What’s one of those?” It turned out to be FDA clearance for medical devices, required before any such device can be featured on TV. So I set about getting one (a complex process that took 18 months).
And on Friday February 27 at 7pm ET, I will be on the newly relaunched shopping channel Evine (formerly ShopNBC). I will be appearing on the premiere of the channel’s new beauty show, "Before and After Beauty," and I will be featuring our FDA-approved, Truth Vitality Lux Renew, and the newly launched Truth Vitality Gel Treatment.
This is a major milestone for Truth In Aging. From a humble blog with an embarrassing number of typos, we have grown into a thriving community of amazing women (and men!). Our mission to be honest and authentic has earned us the respect of the beauty industry. The iterative process of working with the community on product development results in innovation and real results. Getting FDA clearance for the only device with LED and ultrasound and being asked to bring it to TV are the kind of things that happen to big companies. I am very proud to have gotten here. And I thank every one of you for helping to make it possible. When a community pulls together, it can help a small company punch way above its weight.
