Welcome to the new Truth In Aging

December 5, 2008 Reviewed by Marta 9 Comments
Truth In Aging was launched in January 2008 and by late spring it occurred to me that we might be on to something. My hunch seemed to be right and there really was a strong demand for objective and thoroughly-researched information on skin care. However, it was also becoming obvious that we needed to offer more and the idea to rebuild the web site was born.

We have tried to make the site easier to navigate and Amy Fletcher's lovely photos will act as your guide. We certainly want Truth In Aging to be more visual - look out for future picture galleries that will give you a "behind the curtain" glimpse of treatments and procedures. Over the past 10 months or so, we've also amassed a huge amount of cosmetic trivia and we are starting to put this into an ingredients database. This is very much a work in progress (and doubtless will be for the rest of our lives).

Talking of a work in progress, the new Truth In Aging will be evolving over the next few weeks. Please forgive teething problems and glitches. But don't hesitate to give us feedback and suggest improvements.

In the meantime, thank you all for being part of our community and for inspiring me to take this thing seriously.

Sincerely

Marta

Look what happens when I go away on vacation. You sweet folks at TIA vmp up the place LOL!
Great layout with the easy to read fonts, vibrant colors and catchy section listings. great work.

I do miss though the "recent comments" listing you had on the side column though. It helped to provide a snapshot of what topics were recently replied/answered to without having to do much searching.

    Ha,
We will start linking the ingredients to products that feature them strongly.

I hear what you say about bad/good, but I'm reluctant to do it because it is hard to be that definitive. A lot of ingredients have conflicting data behind them and it may well be - as the manufacturers tell us all the time - that in small concentrations they are safe. So, we try to give a balanced account and try to give you enough info to make an informed choice.

I loveee the new layout! For the ingredient list, I was wondering if it would be elaborated a little more. Perhaps, what kind of products might have those ingredients in it and if it's "bad" or "good." Just some sort of warning, I guess.

I can't wait to see more pictures. Not that I don't like reading the articles, but pictures definitely make it more appealing =))

I hadn't realized TIA was so brand new when I discovered it, being so brand new to the whole concept to web browsing myself (not to mention my whole "new" discovery of my solid and gushing girly girl- in my 50s, mind you; good grief!). I was searching for advice on skincare, and this is basically the first website I found. Truth in Aging remains my benchmark of all the sites I visit. I can't say enough, and believe me I say as much as I can to those I know (and even those I don't know =) ).

Thank you, Marta. I bow to you and your cohorts. More than ever I believe one must live in NYC to truly . . . well, that's a story for another time.

By the way, I web surf on my mobile. On Thursday I couldn't access TIA. All day I tried. I finally trudged into the computer room and logged on at my PC and found you've redesigned. What timing! That night (it began Wedsnesday, actually, the serious decisionmaking) we ordered a laptop for me, something I've wanted for a long time. Until midweek I have to "trudge," but hardly a break in action. I think we've got good Karma!

Sarah, the list of all reviewed products is a good idea. Why didn't I think of it! We'll get on to it.

    Hi Marta
I found this site by accident and it is brilliant - just what I've been looking for. In fact I have just chucked out all the chemical laden creams I've been using for years and have already ordered a whole load of new, recommended, safe products to slap on my face and body thanks to all your meticulous research. Fabulous. One thing I wanted to ask - is there a list of all the products you have tested and reviewed?

Thank you Zoe, that's very kind. I think most of the glitches are close to being sorted. I managed to avoid Prozac, but I'm certainly getting ready for a soothing glass of something cool and white in the wine department.

Aside from some missing links--which I assume won't be a problem forever--the new site looks great. Keep up the good work! Also, hurray for pictures! I'll be holding you to that promise of creating a gallery of befores and afters. Not to pile on the cheese, but this site is a veritable oasis in the desert. I just wish I'd come across it sooner in my searches for answers about products.
