We all have a particularly vexing anti-aging challenge and mine is lip lines. Sometimes I think that I am on the losing side of a long-running battle. That is because I store a lot of tension in my jaw and am forever nervously twisting my lips or pursing them in concentration. In fact, I’m probably doing so as I write this. So any treatment is going to have its work cut out. But I have a new regimen that is making some progress at licking my lip lines, as well as the other signs of aging that have creeped up since my last birthday.
What’s working for me right now are two lip line regimens —one for night and one for morning. My nightly treatment starts with Ao Skincare Rewind Retinol ($119.95 in the shop). This is the nicest retinol serum that I have used to date. It’s gentle yet very effective. In addition to retinol it has bakuchiol, an antioxidant from the plant psoralea corylifolia. While bakuchiol has no structural resemblance to retinoids, it can function in a similar way on gene expression profile. Rewind also has an antioxidant called astaxanthin that is much more potent than vitamin C.
After a wait of about 15 minutes (while I do some Lux Renew treatments on another area), I apply either Dr. Dennis Gross Triple Vitamin C Firming Peptide Oil ($62 in the shop) or Sciote Peptide + Defense Firming Youth Serum ($105 in the shop), both of which are good at firming and give my skin a nice dewy look on waking up the next day. (I use them all over my face, not just the lip line area.)
In the mornings, I treat my lip area with ClarityRx Get Fit ($105.75), which uses about four peptides for treating expression lines. I follow that with Lifeline Stem Cell Skin Care Daily Defense Complex ($160 in the shop) all over the face. As you might expect, on my actual lips, I am religious about using the recently reformulated Your Best Face Define ($70 in the shop).
I think this combination has made the best progress yet on the vertical lines that are radiating downwards from my lower lip. I’ll try to be disciplined and stick with the program and report back in a month or so. But, for now, I really think I’m on to something.
One of the products that seem to multitask for me is Dawn Lorraine’s Pomegranate Lift Crème ($59 in the shop). It brings a bit of luster and I use it to dab on my face, nails, hands and neck — just where and when the mood takes me really. For the eyes, I have been in between product tests and have gone back to Expurtise Eye Serum ($65 in the shop). I must say that this is a great product that really punches above its price point with some standout ingredients and a mostly organic and natural formula that contains no nasties. For cleansing, I have also gone back to an old favorite, LiftLab’s Lift + Purify ($65 in the shop) while getting to know (and love) Skin 2 Skin’s White Tea Face Wash ($37 in the shop).
My body lotion of the moment is from Deciem and is The Chemistry Brand Hyaluronic Concentrate ($28 in the shop), which is the first body lotion that I have come across with such a high concentration of hyaluronic acid. While it’s lightweight, this cool gel has proven great treat for winter skin.
