Youngblood Incredible Wear Gel Liner – reader reviewed

I've been using the Youngblood Incredible Wear Gel Liner in the dark brown shade (Espresso) for about four weeks.  This eyeliner comes in brown, black and dark blue, plus two "shimmer" shades that look like dark grey and dark purple.  At $21.00, it is more expensive that the less-than-$10.00 Sonia Kashuk gel eyeliner that I'd been using for over a year.   For the first week I was disappointed in the texture of the gel; it was hard to get enough color on my usual eyeliner brush.  I bought a firmer, inexpensive Sonia Kashuk brush recommended for gel liners, and this helped a lot.  The firmer brush was able to grab more of the gel, and the narrow tip of the brush makes it easy to apply a line a thin as you want.

Once on, the gel provides rich, deep color and seems to stay put.  I love the Espresso, which is a super dark brown shade (I am fair skinned with blue eyes).  I use a primer on my eyelids, then apply shadow, the liner, and mascara.  For more staying power, sometimes I also apply a dark brown shadow in a thin line over the gel liner.  I only use the liner on my upper lids.  The gel does seem to cake up on the liner brush more than my other gel liner, and I have to rinse the brush with every use to avoid brown flakes.

I'm no expert on ingredients, but I compared the Youngblood with the Sonia Kashuk liner that I previously used, and, while the Youngblood had fewer ingredients, they contained similar ingredients that appear common in cosmetics.   I expected the Youngblood ingredients to be much better, given the price. For that reason, although I will continue using the liner, I am not convinced that it is worth the extra expense.  As I am trying to move toward more natural ingredients, next time I will buy a liner made from closer-to-nature products.  Until then, the Youngblood does a good job and I would recommend it and the Kashuk brand.
