Youth Corridor Serum and Eye Cream is a mixed bag

Is a Solution for:
Sagging Skin

Here we go: another hot-shot NYC plastic surgeon is selling a line of high-end skincare products. The Anti-oxidant Boost Skin Serum ($145) and Rejuvenating Eye Cream ($85) offered by Dr. Gerald Imber are two parts of his Youth Corridor line. Its tagline is: “prevention, maintenance, and correction,” a sound and sensible approach. But from here, things get a bit more complicated.

The three big ingredients in the skin serum are 10% vitamin C, Vitamin E, and melatonin. Research says that Vitamin C is, in fact, effective at keeping wrinkles and fine lines at bay. But C becomes wildly unstable when exposed to air, undergoing oxidation and becoming not only ineffective, but also possibly increasing the development of icky free radicals, which promote aging and tissue damage. Vitamin E is a longtime champ at minimizing wrinkles and sun damage, of course.

It’s melatonin that is the headliner here (as it is in Murad's Sleep Reform Serum). In addition to its sleep-inducing properties, melatonin has emerged as a powerful antioxidant and anti-ager, due to its ability to neutralize the aforementioned free radicals. The serum made my skin brighter and smoother; I’d recommend it.

I was especially interested in the eye cream, as someone who fights darkness under her eyes on a regular basis. The peptides (Matrixyl 3000) in this cream are reputed to be the powerhouse component, signaling the body to create more collagen, resulting in smoother, plumper skin. I’ve got to tell you that I did not notice enough of a change to warrant making it part of my nightly routine, which seems to start earlier and end later every night. Sorry, Dr. Imber.
