I was delighted when asked by Truth In Aging to test and review Youva Bright Eyes Complete Eye Treatment ($39), a paraben- and sulfate-free product with all natural ingredients. The product’s claims — that it instantly brightens, depuffs, and smooths the eye area, filling in lines and wrinkles — sounded ideal, too!
What I absolutely love about Youva Bright Eyes is that it goes on smoothly and absorbs almost instantly. It doesn’t leave a sticky residue or film, so I can easily apply a little concealer once absorbed. Some eye serums and creams tend to ball up or pill when I apply makeup over them, and any that leave a sticky residue make it difficult to apply eye shadow smoothly.
Another thing that I loved about Youva Bright Eyes is how hydrating it is, as well as how it improves skin texture. Again, almost instantly, the application area felt refreshed, supple and hydrated. The thin, sometimes crepey-looking delicate skin under my eyes looked firmer and smoother. The third thing I loved about Bright Eyes is how it truly brightened the skin around the eyes. Youva claims the effects are instant. While I did see a bit of an immediate difference, the results were most pronounced after I used the product daily for a couple of weeks.
What I wish this formula would have done better with concerns my wrinkles. The small lines were smoothed, but my etched crow’s feet were not so much beyond the fact that the hydration helped to temporarily plump up the skin. Luckily, they aren’t too pronounced at age 59, but I would like to use a product that provides more noticeable improvement on these deeper lines.
Looking at the ingredients, the first two are well known skin boosters. Aloe assists in keeping the skin supple and may prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Apricot oil moisturizes without leaving any residue behind. Then I looked at a few of the ingredients that intrigued me, including bearberry, licorice root, and skullcap extracts and marine collagen. Bearberry extract contains a substance called arbutin, which naturally lightens and brightens skin and has strong antioxidant properties. I read that it works synergistically with licorice root extract to smooth and lighten the skin. The benefits of marine collagen include moisture retention and thus the improvement of skin suppleness. Skullcap extract, which has been used for over two thousand years, has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and can help protect the skin from sun damage.
All-in-all, I like Youva Bright Eyes due to its ability to hydrate, brighten and enhance skin texture without leaving a sticky film or residue. Bright Eyes illuminated the delicate skin around my eyes and improved the tone, too. On the flip, I wish it did a little more for deeper wrinkles. My final take: If you’re looking for a single eye product that delivers more lifting and firming power, Youva Bright Eyes probably isn’t choice. It seems to be better suited for people under 50 who don’t need as much lift and tightening to reduce the appearance of aging skin around the eyes. For me, since it has some serious brightening power and can be applied under makeup, my plan is to use Youva as my morning eye product and apply a product with more firming and lifting capabilities at night.
